Virgin Media Retention thread

Virgin standard price would seem to be £15 a month for 3 month for 10 MB.Then it goes up to £20. This is without a phone.

I like many others have been on a £10 2 meg bb deal until recently when I was informed about the price hike, I have now just negotiated a deal with 10 mb bb+ line rental + evening and weekend calls + no installation fee for £19.40 ie large phone + large bb with same phone number. I previously was with BT at around £17 for evening and weekend calls +line rental. It seems a good offer to me.
I wouldn't mind this deal. I too was on the £10 for 2mb and this is due to end next month. I am happy to stay with the 10mb they have upgraded me to but £20 for BB only seems expensive.
How hard is it to get them to chuck in the phone line and evening and weekend? I've never "negotiated" before.0 -
Basically just get yourself armed with some info on other bb such as- HERE qoute some of these other deals and tell them you are thinking of leaving for a better deal, although you've been quite happy with them up to now.
Good advice, the only thing I will say, is that I say "I'm leaving", not "I'm thinking of leaving".
It's worked for me in the past, but I don't think it will in a couple of months time, I'm BB only, and refuse to take their phone, because I like to keep my options open.
They only seem to want to do deals on bundles.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Im coming up to the end of my contract, I currently have phone, Medium TV and 10 Meg internet, am paying £25 per month, anyone think I can get anything better?0

I just got my VM bill today - over £20 and I'm still getting 2meg broadband only.
I phoned customer relations (0845 454 1111 then option 2 twice) and was lucky enough be connected to a lovely young lady. I [extremely] politely stated that I simply could not afford this price and she returned me to the previous tariff without even being asked (£14 including the ridiculous £5 non DD surcharge).
There's definitely an element of luck involved - depending who you talk to & how nice they're feeling at at the time but I think it always pays to be as nice as possible to them. Remember, they're just a lowly paid operative who probably hates VirginMedia even more than we do.Energy prices are rising fast so if you like my comment, thank me quickly so you can shut down your computer sooner..! And if you believe Al gore you'll be doing your bit for the planet0 -
I've only recently realised that I'm paying £37 for XL broadband (I also have XL TV, sport, V+ and phone with Virgin) This seems excessive to me. Out of interest how much do you pay for XL broadband?
You have additionaly V+ and phone and are paying £5 less than me.
If you think this is excessive then I am paying over the odds.0 -

I have just had my VM bundle cut off (BB, phone and tv) as I can't pay last month's bill (they now say I have to pay about £140 for two months before I get put back on which I cannot afford). I told them I didn't care about the tv or phone but I really needed the broadband but they said there was no way I could just have that as I was on a bundle. I have looked for alternative providers but they all seem to need a BT line so I can't do that either. Not sure whether it is even worth me trying to negotiate with them about the bill or switch to Sky. If I did switch to Sky would they do a credit check on me? Alternatively does anyone else have any better ideas?0

A few options:-
1) see if a neighbour will lend you theirs (maybe you can pay some money towards it)
2) mobile broadband - could work out cheaper depending on how much you use (virgin mobile 30p for a day or 3 mobiile do £5 for 1gig to use over a month)0
