Virgin Media Retention thread

almost correct, but they can actually downgrade people back to 2mb, if they let you.
Its not advertised anywhere, its like a retention deal.0 -
Well in the end I decided to stay with virgin because I was offered anytime calls, 10mb broad band and the line rental for £24.95 which is £2 cheaper than what I was paying for 2mb broadband and line rental only. Will save about £10 a month overall taking in to account what we were paying for phone calls.0

I upgraded my V package to XL tv & 10mb broadband just before xmas.
( was on L tv and 2mb bb )
Now I'm reading that they're upgrading the 2mb peeps for free to 10mb.
Do you think its worth me calling and asking for a reduction as surely I would be paying over the odds for 10mb now ?
I pay 41.50 which includes discount for paperless billing, and pay by direct debit.0 -
Just got off the phone.
Was on phone £11,L bb £25, TV L £11.50 = £47.50
Whinged about new customers getting bb for £14 etc,he wasn't impressed. I've been a cable customer for about 15yrs right from the Yorkshire cable days, loyalty blah blah.
Came back with £35 all in if i take it on 12 months contract, which is still more than the £24 been offered to new customers for the same bundle.
I looked at sky and they arent much cheaper for a similar bundle, and i don't have a bt line either so a bit stymied really.
Makes the 'We hear you, we're treating you all equally' promise load of cobblers seem a bit rich  . I'd post a link but can't. Might be worth mentioning it when you ring for a bit of leverage0 -
I'd posted previously about phoning to renew 2 MB £10 deal, and that I was told it was no longer possible and put onto £14. When my contract arrived it said I was on the S package. I thought it was a misprint, as my name was misprinted too etc. But then the upgrade I'd registered last week for didn't come through. I called this morning, and it turns out I had been put onto the S package, just not told that ... the STM for that is dreadful ... can only DL 200mg during day and if go over it, STM'd for 12 hours. Machine was really running badly, so much so I thought it was damaged, as I didn't know I was on S package and had no idea what else it could be.
Anyways, called this morning and VM were great, and explained that those who only have BB aren't getting the same £10/cheaper deals anymore, because of only being on BB. They said that those who have e.g. TV, phone also are offered better BB deals. She looked to see if she could upgrade me back to M so I could have the upgrade to 10MB and it was possible, for £16 a month. Still a great deal (and £2 less than she had originally said it may be available for), and I'm just so glad it's sorted. And they were really good on the phone, v quick response etc. And it is a really good price for 10MB BB. And it was upgraded to that while I was on the phone.
Best regards, Cat0 -
just a heads up.... although i got my downgrade to small broadband (2mb), a letter came in the post this morning saying I am tied in 12 months. This is not what they said on the phone and now they're saying 6 month contracts do not exist. Currently disputing but I may disconnect.
So warning for you broadband only people out there who just got a £10/m deal, check if you are locked in for 12 months.0 -

Just got off the phone to retentions. We've been on the 2Mb BB only deal for the last 12 months.
Initially I was hoping to be offered the Small BB only, the one with the STM that's £10 for the first 6 months, then £14, that everyone else has been getting.
The girl at first said this wasn't available and told me the best she could do was the Medium (upto 10Mb) for £12 for the first 6 months then £16 for the remaninder of the 12 months - basically a continuation of what we're on now.
I kept playing hard ball with her, demanding her to put the cancellation through etc and also mentioned that a friend of ours had been given the Small BB only for £10 last week. She went away to confer with her manager and came back and eventually offered us it.
I was on the verges of accepting the Small BB but to her credit she did well to put me off the Traffic Management idea and told me it would be horrendous for watching football streams on Saturdays so in the end I settled for the Medium BB for £12/£16, afterall it's only an extra £2 for faster BB and no STM.
Surprisingly she mentioned a couple of times that we'd be able to renegotiate the deal again in another six months time but given the fact that we'd still be locked into a year long contract I failed to see how this would be possible?
So just to contradict previous posters, the Small BB for £10 is still available for BB only customers, you've just got to haggle that little bit harder for it!
Our area had the upgrade several months ago from 2Mb > 10Mb but I still haven't got round to accepting the new t&c's for the 10Mb so we're still on the old 2Mb but might just give it a whirl tonight and see what all the fuss is about!0 -

Yes, VM have started doing that recently. If you accept a new retentions deal from them they will lock you in for 12 months! However, the reps may not tell you this, so always ask!0
