Did you ring retentions for this deal and what did you say?
Yep, rang retentions, said I was looking for a TV/Broadband package and was offered it straight off. not goig to go for it as didn't realsie Virgin have got very 2 HD channels only and their Setanta package doesn't include ESPN.0 -
Hi :-)
Been with VM since ntl days, and been receiving the £10 discount for M broadband for while. Phoned today, as they'd said 6 months ago to just call up again and the £10 deal would continue. The lady (grumpy!) said there were no more deals being offered, but the only deal she could offer was £14 for 12 months (that was with the £1 off for paperless billing). I agreed, as I'd been really taken by surprise and didn't see how I could afford a BT line/moving bb elsewhere right now.
After reading through the thread, I see others have been put on L at this price, or kept at M for £10 ... as well as others who have been just 'cancelled' or not offered anything. VM definitely getting tougher! So, the other bit of my question is about the upgrade, as if I'm now paying £14 a month, from July I think, and the upgrade is said to be free (the £4 increase is manageable and a good deal really, if the speed is L from when I start paying that), I still have a problem about signing up for it ... my usual email address, the address I use to sign in to paperless billing is all fine. But the leaflet I got recently from VM, regarding signing up for the upgrade, had an old dead email address on it! So, I can't sign in to upgrade as yet ... and have never been able to sign in to my main VM account, but didn't know why until this leaflet came through. Had meant to call them about this, but busy. And I've tried to sign in to my main VM account thisafternoon, but still can't. So am not sure if grumpy lady did her job ... I'd asked her if she was altering my email, and she said she was and asked me my proper email address. Shouldn't I be able to log in correctly by now, plus able to sign up for the upgrade?
Don't know if the L-upgrade is in this area (middlesbrough) yet. Modem switched off and on after calling VM thismorning, but nothing's changed speed-wise and am unsure if am on M or L, but still would like to be able to sign up for the upgrade.
Would much appreciate any advice.
Best regards, Cat0 -
Just managed to get 2MB BB alone for £10 on a 12 month contract. It can be done, so keep at it guys.
I assume that you are aware (or VM explained) that they have intoduced a new 2MB service, and that it is not the same as the old 2MB service which is being upgraded to 10MB, and that is only being offered at a discount price to retain customers?
I assume that you are aware (or VM explained) that the capping restrictions on the new (small) 2MB service are not the same as on the old (medium) 2MB service which is being upgraded to 10MB.
With the new 2MB service you can only download 200MB between 9am and 9pm, before it is capped by 75% for 12 hours. You can also only upload 100MB between 9am and 9pm or you are capped by 50% for 12 hours.
So don't plan on using the service for any sort of video streaming or downloading as you will instantly hit the limit and be back a dial up speeds for a day.

Rang them up and they offered a new 1 year contract for £10 a month. THe big difference I would guess between myself and yourself is I'm on cable and it sounds like you are via phone line? (does the £20.87 include the phone line rental?)
No, BB by cable - no phone line, no tv services.
They do seem rather inconsistent in their offerings so perhaps I may give them another call in a few days to see if they can improve the deal (at least it won't cost me anything on their 0800 number :rotfl:).
Well done wdyw, you've done well.

Is that a new installation or just renewal of old 2Mb contract ??
Didn't think Virgin media were offering 2Mb anymore.
The 2MB service is not sold publically anymore. It used more as a last throw of the dice by VM to get people to stay if they want basic no frills BB service. It was a deal from retentions and it is the S(mall) service.I assume that you are aware (or VM explained) that they have intoduced a new 2MB service, and that it is not the same as the old 2MB service which is being upgraded to 10MB, and that is only being offered at a discount price to retain customers?

It's a bit confusing for the average customer, as they have 6 BB packages S, M, L(M), L(L), XL, XXL, but only market the latter 3. However, I have been told that S and M are in effect the same package, and the STM in the policy are not enforced for the S package at S limits, but at M limits.;) VM try to scare people off from taking the S package by pointing out the restrictions, but if they are not enforced, I'm happy to be saving a bit of money.
So hopefully, I will have the M package at the S price. I also read of people who are on the L(m) package at £10 so I may phone them up again TBH, just for the hell of it.
BTW: I was also offered the 2MB M service at £12.50 for 12 months-but thought I'd save the extra 2.50 per monthBeen with VM since ntl days, and been receiving the £10 discount for M broadband for while. Phoned today, as they'd said 6 months ago to just call up again and the £10 deal would continue. Also if you area has already been upgraded you can register here to activate your 10MB service pretty much immediately, or pre-register for when it hits your area http://www.virginmedia.com/myvirginmedia/gofaster/
£14 is a good deal for the L(m) service especially if you have no other services with them, so I would be happy if I were you. You could push them a bit and maybe get it down to £10-12 but it may be hard and you may have to play chicken.0 -
rang in about the 2mb £10 deal and they said its only for the first 6 months and then its £18 after. The person cancelled me. would they ring back as i dont think they have my number.0

Thanks Saeed. Great that you gave me the timetable link, as I've seen the upgrade has been done here!!! So, just needing to sort the email thing out and can register! I posted on the broadband.support newsgroup and it's getting sorted out.
And yes, I totally agree, as I didn't feel down about the £14; think it must have been the surprise of finding out about the increase/changes when I called! Feel very lucky to have the 10MB for £14, and definitely not into playing the old russian roulette game ... too many people are just getting contracts dropped. Looking forward to email getting sorted so can register!
Many thanks again, Cat :beer:0 -
Just been on the phone with them and no go getting a decent deal. Got offered M phone and L BB for £20.95 with free wireless router. I am not really bothered about the TV but asked about the M TV as it is apparently "free" but the price goes up to £25 which is the usual price on the website.
If it wasn't such a hasle I'd cancel and join again as a new customer with the £120 quidco at the moment.0 -
if you cancel you cant rejoin for 3 months no?0
