    Hi

I am due to have a free BT line install next week
VM rang me to ask me to stay-they offered 10meg line with phone rental for £20.95/month (assuming online billing).

He warned me that O2's traffic management would be worse than VM's
and also the maximum speed would be 6.5meg as I am 750 metres away from the exchange.

At the moment I intend paying BT £12.50/month for line rental plus £1.51/month to O2 broadband (after £70 cashback and 3 months free) for the 10 meg line for 12 months. (LLU us present)

It seems a no brainer to move to O2 but was there any truth in what he said about 02 traffic management and max speed?

    Thanks

    O2 don't do 10meg, do you mean 8meg or 20meg?

Kind of irrelevant if you can only get 6.5meg, but the reason i'm checking is that you don't get 3 months free with the 8meg, only with the 20meg.
  • i used to have tv package 2mb b/band + phone tv pack was hopeless as i like sport you dont get option of choosing your f/ball game , snooker or where ever theres more than one match of any kind going on so like on sky tv cancelled my tv + told them i was going to sky instead they then offered me 50%reduced rate on tv for full package for 6/mths which i refused but they said i coul;d have phone + b/band 2mb for £20 indefinatly which i thought was a fair deal+ still have now but gone to sky for my tv.

I'm not up to date with deals you can get anymore, I used to be.

    I have:

    2Mb Broadband (size M) .. £18
    Telephone Line ............... £11
Talk Unlimited (size XL) ... £7.95
    TV (size M) ..................... Free
    Call Reminder ................. £1.75
    Itemised Billing .............. £1

I pay around £20/month for this with £20 permanent loyalty discount, had this deal for over 2 years.

Is this still good deal ??

Ps: Blimey, it's exactly 2 years ago since I posted this post when I got deal on old retention thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=4917869&postcount=1305

I wouldn't believe anything they (VM) say about the competition (O2). They told me I'd only get 4-6mb, but my line is capable of 18-20mb. (I was getting nearly full speed for over a week as O2 evaluated my line.) I'm 450m from the exchange. If your exchange is unbundled and you're 750m away, I'd have thought you'd get more than 6.5mb, but I'm only comparing my speed/distance with yours.

As far as O2 traffic management, I'm not aware of any. They do have a fair use policy (who doesn't) but after weeks of research I couldn't find an example of anyone falling foul of it. (VM's traffic management was one of the major factors in my leaving them.)

    http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/ofcom.jsp
Usage limits and fair usage policies

Like every company offering broadband, we have a "Fair and Acceptable Usage Policy." It’s there so that everyone knows the rules about using O2 Home Broadband, and can see what steps we would take if someone breaks them.

Please have a look at the "O2 Home Broadband Fair and Acceptable Usage Policy" terms & conditions available at http://www.o2.co.uk/termsconditions/broadband.

Traffic management and traffic shaping policies

We do not currently apply any traffic shaping (throttling all/groups of customers) or traffic management (throttling specific types of applications) policies. If we adopt either type of policy in the future, we will post full details on o2.co.uk/broadband before they are applied
I'm paying 7.34 (discount for having my mobile with them) for 8mb and will be upgrading to 20mb (9.79) after I get my Quidco cashback. I'm so happy I ditched VM (all 3 services). I wish I'd done it sooner.

Hi I called VM retentions and said I was thinking of moving to BT and O2 for my telephone and broadband, I was immediately offered Large (10MB) broadband with wireless router and Medium phone for £15.95 per month for 6 months then £20.95 per month after that.

I'm quite happy with that to be honest as we dont even really use the home phone however I havent accepted yet as think I may be able to push for a little more :rotfl:

Be interesting next month when I give retentions a ring. At the minute I get the following:

    Line Rental £11.00
    Free Voicemail £0.00
    Talk Weekends £0.00
    Broadband Size: L £25.00
    Phone & BB Saving £-8.00
Phone & BB Additional Saving £-5.50

so line rental and 10mb BB for £22.50

I am eligible for BT Basic (£4.50pm line rental) and with the special offer of free line connection it is very tempting. I wonder if Virgin will match it.
