I have a BT line and Virgin Media DSL Broadband 5 meg. I pay £17.99 Recently they have been reducing my speed if I do any downloading.
Who would be best to threaten to move to for real unlimited downloads ?
Thanks
I believe o2's bb is unlimited. But VM wont give you 'real' unlimited downloads if you threaten to leave, since technically they have no limits on downloading, they just adjust your speed. Highly annoying yes, but still technically unlimited downloads. A lot of users leave their PC's on at night and schedule their downloads for then, since the traffic management isn't in effect then.
The only way you'll get unlimited downloads and no speed capping (or traffic management as vm call it) is to move to a different company.Sigless0 -

Not happy with this I was ready to leave VM for the greener pastures of a traditional phone line and broadband provider.
Alas, once requesting disconnection I was offer my existing 2MB BB for £14 a month for a period of 12 months.
Figured it was more to pay, but I was happy to do so to avoid the hassle to move elsewhere and and paying for a phone line that I don't need.
Done
I finally phoned them. Was told M is no more for broadband and could only have:
Broadband L for £15 a month (12 month contract)
Broadband L for £18 a month (rolling contract).
I was paying £10 a month for M and was perfectly happy with it but not sure I have any alternative really unless I lock myself in which I don't want to do.0 -
I currently pay £69.00 for Large BB, XL TV, evening and weekends phone, Sky Sports 1+2, a V+ box and one addtional standard box.
Iv been out of my contract for a while been with them for yonks (was with NTL for many moons before the change over)
Does it sound like im getting a fairly decent deal already or should i try and see if i can get better?
Rang them up yesterday, i found out my latest contract expired last year May 2007, so i thought excellent i maybe able to get a good deal after speaking to the advisor for 30 mins she could offer me no better, and that the package I am on now is £78.00Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no.435- Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :cool:0 -
Right I've just had a look at my Father-In-Laws Bill and am amazed! He has been a VM customer for nearly 10 years since the Telewest days.
This is what they are charging him:
Telephone Line Rental: £11
Talk Unlimited: £7.95
Call Wait: £1.75
Full Itemised Billing: £1
Broadband Size M: £18
TV Size M: £0 (Free)
Total: £39.70
Now, if he was to sign up as a new customer he would get the following:
Telephone XL (Talk Unlimited)
Broadband Size L
Both: £21.95
Call Waiting: £2
Telephone Line Rental: £11
TV Size M: £0 (Free)
Free Wireless G Router
Total: £25.95 for first 3 months - £34.95 thereafter! Still a saving of £4.75 for much better products!
So, he is clearly getting ripped off! He has been a customer for over 10 years. I'm gonna phone on his behalf tomorrow and speak to redemptions (0800 052 8310). What do you think I can haggle out of them? 12 months free? Free upgrade to XL broadband? Anything else? What do you guys think?0 -
I'm moving house and currently deciding whether to move our VM contract too. We are about 20 months with them, and never thought about ringing for retention deals. Darn.
But now I know! Do you think they'll be able to do something with a deal, or will they just say no and start a new contract at our new house?0 -
Kariniski... i'd start a new contract once you've moved and go through quidco.
That way, you will get £70-90 cashback depending on when you do it and also get a new customer deal.
Edit: although do ring them just to see what deal you could get, but I expect quidco route will be your best option.0 -

If they offer you a deal remember it will almost certainly tie you into a NEW contract.
When you move you could end up having to pay off the remaining months, before starting again at your new property.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

You can transfer your contract if your new house has cable, this is my understanding.0 -
Just been on the phone to retentions to ask if there's any better deals they can offer for what I'm paying.
On the £21 bundle of Medium TV, Medium Phone and Broadband.
After going round in circles and mentioning sky packages I'm being tempted by, the guy said that all he could do is give me more channels but I'd have to pay for them as usual.
Now, here's my question. The bill is in my partners name. I was with Virgin Media myself before I moved in here.
Is it possible for her to disconnect and me to join as a new package/customer therefore getting a good deal?£2 Savers Club 2014 #74 - £4840 -
