Virgin Media Retention thread

It seems like virgin have got more hawkish in retaining customers. My 2MB has gone upto £16 now and I gave cancellation notice. usually I got a call a few days later when I did this around 6-9 months ago but now I got something different. They sent me a letter which kind of asks me to stay but says if you want to leave then do so! Anyone else got the same response?
My call came about 3 or 4 days after giving my notice but I've not received a letter as yet.
Have to say the guy I spoke to didn't really seem too interested in offering me a better deal.
I'm holding out for another call back.0 -
Well if (when) mine goes up I too will be leaving so all I can suggest is that you stick to your guns and do the same....
I think they are wise to people threatening to leave if they don't mean it but if they start losing customers then they might think again.0 -

I spoke to customer services when I said I'd like to leave and the best she offered was £14/month for 2MB BB, when I was paying £10! She did say it would be going to 10MB in May, but since I don't use it for downloads, I am really not that interested in faster speeds, just need basic BB access which I told her.
If it does get to the disconnection stage then I could always sign up as a new customer, but am currently looking at ADSL providers. If I had a BT line, I'd be off! I've got Sky too but no currently subscribed, may try badgering them to pay for a BT line installation and see how far I get.

I hope you got that in writing
Sorry, sure it will be fine but I NEVER trust any promises on the phone especially from people like that.
Sorry for the late reply. I checked my account and the credit is on there. They couldnt get my phone line connected and 2 months later! they have now sorted it. for the hassle factor i have been credited £30 and 6 months free line rental for the phone (£11 off a month) means i will pay £9 a month for all 3 basic services.:T0 -
I pay £41 for XL BB and XL TV. No phone at all.
Time to call them then...
Do they offer any deals for Sky Sports?
Out of interest, when did you negotiate that contract?
I previously paid £38 for XL BB and TV and no phone for 12 months but it's shot up to £51.50 a month now. The best I was able to get them down to in recent conversation was £44 a month.
I don't want to pay any more than £38 as I was told this wasn't a special offer last time and I could stay on this tariff - of course I've got nothing to prove this though and they are saying their "notes say nothing about this".0 -

then upgraded to XL TV a few months after that for £7 or £8 more
then upgraded to XL BB in February last year and got some discount apparently offered to people in my area
after switching to e-bills and reducing VAT to 15% it is £41.11 at the moment
but I don't think it is anything special - many people pay less for more or get more for the similar price0 -
I took a bog standard offer back in 2007: M BB and M TV (or L - do not remember) - it was £31 or so
then upgraded to XL TV a few months after that for £7 or £8 more

Thanks.
I'm holding out hope of getting it for £38 - what i currently pay. I've started my notice period and have had one call back from them but they were still offering more than I'm paying and for dropping either BB or TV to L from XL.
I'm not sure whether to hold out and wait for anoher call or whether I should ring them back and ask them again if they can match my current deal. I'm about halfway through my 30 day notice period.0 -
I had the email a few weeks back saying that they were upgrading all 2mb customers to 10mb which I don't really need, then an email last week with the £2 price increase notification. Phoned retentions, was offered £14 a month and decided that was still on the high side as I had previously had 18 months on a discounted rate of £10 so gave my 30 days notice. As I have a BT line I have just got an o2 sim card which I will top up by the required £10 every 3 months and give to one of the kiddies to use and have ordered o2 broadband for £7.34 a month, so that works out at just over £10 a month. Free router, no connection fee, first month free and £70 cashback hopefully via Quidco.0

(Cross posted, but very relevant to this thread, not sure why the two haven't been merged....)
Just called Virgin myself as my L TV and M BB had gone from £21.50 to £28...
Went through to cancellations and got fed a right load of !!!!!!!!. Told them I was going to sky for £16.50 a month all in and she started slagging them off.
Best they could do for me was £31.50 a month... no chance.
Gave my 30 days notice and that was that....
Bye bye Virgin media, it was good whilst it lasted.
(When I asked if they were not doing 2meg bb at all anymore she said "no, we only have one package" which I thought was strange so I said "what speed is that" and she just kept repeating "less than 2 meg and there is no security in that package, you really don't want that".... !!!!!!?!?!?!
EDIT
Forgot to say to anyone in the same boat.... don't fall for their horse !!!!.... give them your 30 days notice and if they mess you around, leave them! They will soon come crawling back when people start leaving in their masses.... (by which point it could be too late for them).
Virgin Media - the only company stupid enough to think they can get away with putting prices up by 50% when the country is on its knees in a credit crunch!
EDIT 2
Just e-mailed a few newspapers to see if they are interested in a story about Mr Branson increasing costs by almost 50% in the middle of a credit crunch with people losing jobs and homes. Maybe this extra cost is to pay for Virgin's forray into Formula One?!?!
Just priced up my new arrangement:
Sky+ @ £16.50 per month (plus £85 cashback)
Post Office for phone @ £107.66 install and then £10.72 line rental (plus £9.25 cashback)
O2 Broadband @ £7.34 per month (plus £80 cashback)
Total cashback = £174.25
minus
Total install cost (£107.66) = £66.59 / 12 months = £5.55
Monthly cost = £34.56
minus £5.55
Overall cost for comparison £29.01
Less than what Virgin Media want to charge me and I get a phone line, free wireless router, unlimited broadband with no STM, the flexibility to move around as and when I like, sky+ included.....0
