That's a reasonable deal, isn't it? Like you say, for the sake of £1 it avoids the bother of switching, especially if you're actually happy with their service. Is it a 12 month offer, with tie-in?0

Yes, another 12 month minimum term. It was a reasonable deal which I why I accepted it.
One time they didn't offer me such a great deal though. When I moved house I couldn't get broadband working, Virgin kept messing me around by recording the wrong fault details meaning it didn't get fixed.
Called up and said I just wanted to cancel and they offered me 1 free month as long as I agreed to another 12 month contract. Wasn't too impressed with them trying to lock me in to another 12 month term for something I couldn't even use.0 -
Hi all to cut along story short lve been with telewest/virgin for years and years and 11 months ago l changed my package to xl tv/ all times phone and xl broadband (l think its xl broadband lol) anyway its £56 something a month....l want to get the cost down because we dont watch the tv.... very often at all it was mainly for daughter whose now older and doesnt wanna watch cartoon channels etc anymore, the talk all times is a waste of time as we all have mobiles and all we use is the internet non stop!!! My contract ends in April and lm not very forward l would love some one to point me in the right direction to get the best out of virgin as l dont want to change really as if l did l would have to have BT phone line installed which would cost as house is not connected to Bt. I want to keep my broadband the tv l dont give a toss about nor the all times phone calls they must think lm a right mug going for talk all times and we dont use the phone :rotfl: theyve
had a fortune out of us could anyone tell me what to say and what the best number is to ring please? Thank you ever so much hope l can return the favour x

Once you are out of contract, cancel the TV sub, downgrade your phone package to suit your current requirements, and review your broadband package if you are paying for speed/bandwidth you don't use. Look at the Virgin website to see what you want and what you would be paying if you were a new customer-you should be able to get it for that or for less if you tell them you are thinking of leaving altogether. Best to keep the phone line with Virgin though, as otherwise you could pay £130 for BT reconnection.
I'm presuming that you'll be OK with TV via Freeview, so you will need to invest in a Freeview box and aerial if not already installed. Howver this will pay for itself in a couple of months if you're currently paying £56 pm.
PS: just noticed that there are other threads on tonight with a similar topic-indicates that you could get a similar package to what you have now for around £20 less if you ring once you are approaching the end of your contract and ask for a better deal.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for the info
Anyone give me any tips on how to approach this on the phone t them please? Tel me how to get them to listen to me pls lol

niecsey: you presumably still get a bill by email though?-if not ring them up and ask what package you are on.
To get the price down, work out what packages you want from Virgin and what the 'new customer' price is, see what you could get elsewhere, then ring them up and say you are now out of contract and need a better deal otherwise you will be taking your business elsewhere (mention the other provider you're thinking of going to and the price you can get with them). You don't need any special 'approach', in your case you're paying so much over the odds that they can't fail to reduce it once you're OOC.
I'd have a price in mind, ask them what the best they can do for you is, if the first offer isn't god enough tell them so.
If they say to you,' if you leave Virgin and want broadband, you will need a BT line installing', then tell them you've already got one-they have no way of knowing this.
If you don't want the TV or phone at all, then the basic 10MB broadband service 'L' is currently £15 for first 6 months, then £20. So that will save you £462 in the first year. But you can probably negotiate better than that.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks guys x chuffed to bits with myself
rang virgin and wasnt happy with what the first guy told me so said to leave things and l would look about. So 2 mins later lol l rang retentions? and talked to a lovely man called Danny l didnt even have to try he asked why l was thinking of leaving so told him blah blah and he agreed with me about the phone and tv if they wernt been used he said £25 for m tv m phone and stay on the xl broadband which unbeknown to me l could of been getting 20mb if they bothered to tell customers whats going on and sent a new modem grrrr so we talked and l dont need 20mb so lm staying as l am for £25 a month and if l have any questions just to ring back etc so thats £32 saving a month! He also tld me even when your in contract you can still change things and l should of done esp about the phone that barely gets used grrr all that money down the drain
never mind
live and learn thanks guys your great x:money:

I think I am being ripped off at present. I am on Virgin's 'L' BB, which seems to be the smallest now, with XL and XXL available.
I am paying £25 per month for this! Even their own website says the normal price is only £20, after an even cheaper introductory deal.
I don't have a television or home phone so I can't negotiate to include these. What should I be aiming to settle for? If I don't get any joy I will cancel and get mobile broadband for £15/mo.
EDIT: I am not in contract, have been with them a long time. Don't want another 12 month tie-in either, as intend to move house this year0
