Actually the £14 deal is not to bad for 12 months. I suppose £17 for 10mb is not to bad but I don't think I need that speed. I will be quite happy with the £14 after my current deal runs out in 6 months. Is that £14 with the £1 reductuon for e-billing? I have never got that e-bill discount despite being signed up to it for quite a few months.
Went for the £17 deal at the end as managed to get free netgear wireless router included. Thought I could always sell it to save some money or use it to replace my old linksys router. Plus have a big family so the extra speed may help when we all use the connection simultaneously.

Yes the £14 and £17 were including the ebilling discount...otherwise it is £15 and £18. I think in order to receive the discount you have to activate ebilling by registering online. Otherwise they assume you are on paper billing.

    Colin,

Are these deals, such as £17 for 10mb, just for the broadband, or do they include the landline and are these charges fixed for a reasonable period like 12 months, in which case it would seem a good deal compared with the regular prices?

    On the VM website, the 10mb broadband alone is £15 for 6 months, then £20, but the landline + 10 mb broadband package is £11 + £5 = £16 for 3 months, then £11 + £14 = £25. (Presumably there is a £1 e-billing discount on these charges.)
Not Colin but I will try to answer your questions;). The £14 and £17 deals for 2mb and 10mb respectively are broadband only, and don't include the landline. And it is a 12 month contract. So yes the £17 retention deal works out slightly cheaper than the one for new customers, which effectively is £17.50 per month over 12 months. Plus we don't have to pay the £30 installation (although I guess we had to aswell when we first joined). The deals quoted on the internet already include the £1 ebilling discount I think, so it is slightly deceiving!

Just to add if you want the BB and telephone landline, they were giving me quite a good deal which worked out to be around £19/month, which is only £2 more than the £17 deal (but then you have to pay installation I think).

You did still go through the "I'm thinking of leaving" route?

Well the retention guy i spoke was in face very helpful but refused to honour the deal i had originally been offered. I said i'd probably go at the end of my broadband deal and he metaphorically shrugged his shoulders it seemed....
Oh well, perhaps Virgin will lose out with CS like this?

Thanks ultracheapskate. I'll contact VM re the £19 deal for BB and telephone landline.
  • I just signed up for another 12 months, £24.95 for 10mb broadband and unlimited landline calls, down from £45 a month.

    Ultracheapskate,

You can certainly use the Virgin Media router instead of your existing router, but it may be advisable not to sell it. The Virgin Media terms (see below) do state that the equipment remains their property, and they could well chase you for the equipment back once you terminate the contract.

In fact, last year they tried chasing me for a fictitious piece of equipment which they had not even supplied to me. They suddenly started billing me for this equipment, and they could not say what the equipment was for, and when they sent it to me, but they said I must have the item, because their computer records said I had it!

I had to ring up each month for several months to demand they cancel the incorrect charge for that month until I found someone who agreed to cancel the charge permanently.

Free wireless router offer for L and XL: Wireless enabled equipment required. Available to all new Broadband customers taking our Size: L and Size: XL Broadband services (subject to status and credit checks). Wireless router for XXL: Wireless router and adaptor are included your package. Equipment remains property of Virgin Media.

I just had a laughable conversation with the rentetion department. I moved my phone from VM to BT in able to get Sky broadband. So I get the call from VM asking what they could do to keep me. I told them what my intention was, and as a customer from the begining of cable in Nottingham with Diamond Cable, about 12 years in total could they offer me a nice deal to stay. I was informed that they could let me have the broadband for £13.90 instead of the £14 I am currently paying!! Needless to say, I there and then asked for my BB to be terminated asap.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Rang tonight as my £11 Medium BB deal was ending. Got it extended without any fuss. He even made sure I was registered with e-billing to get it down to £10 per month for the next 6 months. He said just ring back in 5 months to get it again when it runs out.
    :T

Same here...extended straight away... £10 p m and call back just before it runs out again in July...Didn't even haggle!:j
(I've been on £10 pm for about 2-3 years now...ex NTL Cable)
I make a note to call every 6 months.....but if asked, I always say I'm in a Sky contract, (I'm not any more) and a BT contract( been out of contract for about 20years!) , so unfortunately can't take any of their bundles, and they're fine!

So that deal does still exist. It seems to depend on who you speak to at VM as to what you are offered.

Good for you, did Sky pay for the phoneline swap to BT, or did you have a BT line installed (but unused) anyway? What's your current bills coming to with Sky for landline and BB?
