Virgin Media Retention thread

Well the retention guy i spoke was in face very helpful but refused to honour the deal i had originally been offered. I said i'd probably go at the end of my broadband deal and he metaphorically shrugged his shoulders it seemed....
Oh well, perhaps Virgin will lose out with CS like this?
Make sure to give them 30days notice of leaving before your contract ends.0 -
Same here...extended straight away... £10 p m and call back just before it runs out again in July...Didn't even haggle!:j
(I've been on £10 pm for about 2-3 years now...ex NTL Cable)
I make a note to call every 6 months.....but if asked, I always say I'm in a Sky contract, (I'm not any more) and a BT contract( been out of contract for about 20years!) , so unfortunately can't take any of their bundles, and they're fine!

If your 6 months end in July, am I right in saying you called in Dec/Jan to renew? Or did you call this month? If the former, it would be consistent with what they told me in retentions that they stopped offering such a deal from this month.0 -
Ultracheapskate,
You can certainly use the Virgin Media router instead of your existing router, but it may be advisable not to sell it. The Virgin Media terms (see below) do state that the equipment remains their property, and they could well chase you for the equipment back once you terminate the contract.
In fact, last year they tried chasing me for a fictitious piece of equipment which they had not even supplied to me. They suddenly started billing me for this equipment, and they could not say what the equipment was for, and when they sent it to me, but they said I must have the item, because their computer records said I had it!
I had to ring up each month for several months to demand they cancel the incorrect charge for that month until I found someone who agreed to cancel the charge permanently.
Free wireless router offer for L and XL: Wireless enabled equipment required. Available to all new Broadband customers taking our Size: L and Size: XL Broadband services (subject to status and credit checks). Wireless router for XXL: Wireless router and adaptor are included your package. Equipment remains property of Virgin Media.0 -

Previously I've had 12 months at a time of £10 p m. That was about 3 years ago. I think I got 2 of them...then this is the third 6 month deal I've had. I was with NTL from the days when only the very few exchanges were geared up for phone BB....ours wasn't for years, so I went with NTL cable...and have stayed with them.

No, I called Feb, so I get it Feb,March, April, May, June and July. I have to call in July, just before the 6 month ends again. My last 6 months @ £10 ended Jan, so I waited until they sent me the Feb advance bill (where it showed the new price, £18?), and called them. As I don't pay until the end of each month, they amended the amended DD back down, so I didn't pay the increase in Feb.
Hmm interesting. I called quite a few times since I thought some agents would be more lenient than otehrs...but none of them would budge for me at all. All the agents said the same thing and didn't seem to have much scope for flexibility...£14 for 2mg or £17 for 10mg...both 12 months.
Guess I wasn't so lucky :-(
I didn't want the hassle of changing to ADSL, as I have had terrible experiences in the past with AOL, BT and Sky, so decided to just take the offer as I had no intention of leaving.0 -
Well, they may say "No" when I call in July..I'll wait and see....TBH I'd stay with them for £14 for 12 months...can't be bothered with changing my e mail addy etc etc!! It was funny actually...this time, all I said was "I've been on a 6 month loyalty reduction, and I was told to call back to have it extended...." and the lady just said "Oh Yes, OK, I can do that for you!!!!" I was really shocked...I had expected to have to haggle!

Just had to comment on this - you if sign up for a googlemail address you don't need to keep changing your email every time you change broadband supplier, it will work with Outlook and you can keep the email address for life no matter who your supplier is.0 -
