Virgin Media Retention thread

the last time I checked, when you move you can take your contract with you, with no penalty.
If the new house is in a non cable area, you can cancel with no penalty. However this may have changed as they do ADSL now, perhaps they ask you to move to their ADSL service instead.0 -
I think I am being ripped off at present. I am on Virgin's 'L' BB, which seems to be the smallest now, with XL and XXL available.
I am paying £25 per month for this! Even their own website says the normal price is only £20, after an even cheaper introductory deal.
I don't have a television or home phone so I can't negotiate to include these. What should I be aiming to settle for? If I don't get any joy I will cancel and get mobile broadband for £15/mo.
EDIT: I am not in contract, have been with them a long time. Don't want another 12 month tie-in either, as intend to move house this year
Well I phoned them up this morning and the guy was adamant that the £20 was only if you took a phone line out as well?! I don't believe this is the case, it doesn't say anything about a phone line on their website.
Anyway, I was offered £17 for 12 months so I took it. £8 saving per month for a phonecall isn't too bad? £2 more than any mobile broadband I would buy, but worth it for no download restrictions I feel. I can port it when I move too.0 -

£20 per month is the new L broadband only price, £14 is the new L broadband price for new customers when taken with a £11 phone line (also technically includes free M television, which is equivalent to freeview, if I recall).

Spoke to a lovely girl today, having previously scoped out what I wanted online.
For 50p extra than I am currently paying (£28 inc. line rental) i'm getting extra:
TV - Medium (which is fine, mainly want the iPlayer - and my freeview box is breaking!)
Wifi - Free
Broadband - Doubled in speed from what I currently have (going to large)
Phone - Evening & Weekends included (had this already)
There's always the nagging doubt that you missed getting something amazing by making threats to leave etc, but this seems fine by me and was rather simple to request.0 -
My daughter has just been offered by virgin media telephone sales the following
Telephone L
TV M
Phone L
for £28.45 per month for 12 months, plus one off payment of £30.00
or she could have the above with TV L instead of M for £38.45/month for 12 months plus one off payment of £30.00
When I look on their website the above bundles show up as
Telephone L
TV M
Phone L
£28.45 per month plus one of payment of £30.00 and £50.00 online credit taken off first bill
Telephone L
TV L
Phone L
£33.45 per month for 3 months then £38.45 thereafter plus one of payment of £30.00, and £50.00 online credit taken off first bill
Plus if we go through Quidco I think its £65.00 cashback, so the online option is a better deal isnt it? or am i missing something.
Cheers

I've been with Telewest/Virgin for about 5 years.
I originally signed up just for Broadband and they threw in TV package for free - in fact it was cheaper to have TV than not. I got it for £19 a month for a year but it's gradually gone up year on year and last year I was paying £38.50 for XL TV and XL Broadband.
I've only just noticed (been a bit slack at going through my post) that for the last 3 months they've been charging me £51 a month!!
I rang up on the 0845 number and went through to the option for "thinking of leaving us" (is this the "retentions department" people are talking about by the way?) and told them I was thinking of leaving and going to SKY they gave me some waffle about being a better service than SKY and offered me a downgrade to L Broadband and L TV for £38.
I said I think I'll just proceed to offering my 30 day notice period as that was still too expensive and for a lesser service. They accepted and said they'd come and pick the box up on the day the notice period expired.
Can I expect a call from someone there to negotiate?
I don't especially want to change but do want a reduction - what do people reckon I should go for? I mentioned a Sky deal for £26.50 with TV and Broadband - that was the sort of price I'm hoping for but not sure how realistic that is?
Cheers.0 -
I think it's safe to say you will get one or two calls during your 30 day notice period. I did anyway. The offer made to us from this agent was better than what we were being offered previously, even from retentions. Hopefully they'll offer you something better too. Of course, there are no guarantees and even after this better offer I chose to leave. I wasn't asking for anyting rediculous, just on par with the other providers, e.g. Sky, O2, BT. So if you are prepared with these prices and they can't match them, then don't be afraid to walk.0

I currently pay £21.50 for M BB and L TV....
The M BB is currently 2meg but is supposed to be going up to 10 meg so I heard... when that happens I understand they will stop doing it for £10 (which I am currently paying) so will have to see what happens over the coming months....
For L BB I suspect you should be paying about £18 per month and then £11.50 is for L TV = £29.500 -
I am currently paying £10 with ebilling discount for 2mb, but they have without warning increased it to £16.50 with ebill. Need some ammo against the retentives, so far I have:-
1) sky do 2mb free with (2GB limit?)
2) orange do 2mb free for mobile customers with 10GB limit
any other cheap deals to hammer them with?0
