So I had VIVID100 BB (going up to 150), Phone XL (Anytime), Multitalk 1000 for £34pm (they lied as they stated £30pm on the phone call). This ended and shot up to £48pm.

Gave my notice. Cue plenty of calls, taken by family members who had no clue. I called their 'leaving us' team a couple of days before disconnection and told them I'd missed a call to retentions - they promised to call back with 24 hours. I was called back within an hour. I mentioned I previously should have gotten £30 - the person on the line was adamant I'd get nothing of the sort and offered me £34.99pm instead. I asked if everything was to be kept exactly the same and he said yes - I made sure to mention the previous promise of £30 which wasn't kept. I had recorded this call for that reason.

Unfortunately today I realised that my BB was downgraded to VIVID100, rather than being kept on the package which was due to be upgraded to VIVID150. Disappointing really, but I've come to expect this from Virgin Media. Not a big loss, but i look forward to BT Open Fibre...

Get back on to them and cancel again if you still have time.

    Retentions offered me this

    100 meg BB
    XL TV
    EVENING AND WEEKEND CALLS
    SKY MOVIES
    2 TiVo boxes
    1 hd box

£68 per month inc line rental

    Is this a good deal

Sky Movies on itself is cheap add-on (£4 difference between Big Kahuna and Big Kahuna Movies).
If you add Sky Sports and HD option for Sky Premium channels then that would be £22.50 more i.e. £90.50. I pay £93 for those but have only weekend calls and 2 boxes (Tivo and HD+), so I reckon it is a good deal for 3 boxes and evening calls.
  • Hi,
My Virgin 'loyalty' of a tenner month is due to end and my pay upfront line rental too.
At moment paying for 70mb BB and basic phone £25 pm. Your deal of:

of £44 a month for home phone and 100mb broadband was way too much.

They offered the same deal I was on for £14 a month, then offered 200mb line plus phone for £18 a month.

Looks well good value, is this correct!
    Thanks

    Doug

I have been with Virgin forever, and decided that my deal of £44 a month for home phone and 100mb broadband was way too much.

I went via MSE to the latest BT deal, signed up for it and a few days later Virgin phoned me intially to deal with home phone. They asked was I on their broadband, a yes to that. Virgin told me they would phone back as I needed to discuss a date for them to disconnect me.

Later that day, retentions phoned me, asked why I was leaving to which I stated I was paying too much plus suffered outages with broadband.

They offered the same deal I was on for £14 a month, then offered 200mb line plus phone for £18 a month.

Needless to say I went for the 200mb deal.

A massive saving and better deal!

Thanks to MSE for inspiring me to get off my backside and not just be a loyal customer who never questions what we pay.

Groan - I am so gutless! the same, been with them forever and realised how crap a deal I was getting so called with the intention of playing hard but.. I bottled it at going through with the cancellation :wall:

Mitigation is if I lost our home number or our email addresses my wife would hit me with a spade repeatedly so I chickened.

Well done on your deal! I will be paying twice as much for half as much, he who dares and all that....

(but still £360 a year better off than I was half an hour ago)

    £4 x 12 = £48 a year dearer for something you (most probably) won't notice a difference

  • Hi
Thanks for the comments. I was just checking that this user has the deal of BB, any from 50 to 100! and phone line (week end) calls for £14 pm and this price is for both these services.
Am on same, 70mb and basic phone for £25 pm.
Thanks again for taking time to reply

That's a bit of an eye opener! Is this through hearsay or did you manage to get this yourself? I'm asking this as I recently negotiated a new contract on the big kahuna bundle and if this is true I'll be kicking myself for not adding this.

That's tempting. Has any body on here managed to upgrade as an existing customer and not a new customer (as it seems that the prices are aimed at enticing new customers to sign up) for the £4 or £3 average difference in price? I spoke via on-line chat yesterday and all they quoted was what it states on the website for an upgrade which would be around £29 for 6 months then £19 for the remaining 6 months so averaging out at £24 per month. The best they eventually offered was around £19 per month average.
If anyone has managed to upgrade for anything better, I would get straight back to them for another try!
