How long do you have to have away from virgin to be regarded as a new customer?0

So, my cancellation backfired and after getting one call from outbound retentions (who didn't offer me anything as I said I had a super deal from SKY, and I gave them the number [which I did, but only shopped around for the purposes of haggling]), I haven't had any further calls. The chap said he would keep an eye on my account to make sure the cancellation happens smoothly.
So... if I cancel my cancellation, does that mean:
- I am technically out of contract, or
- it revert back to a new 12/18 month contract, or
- pick up from where it left off previously
Sigh, for the last 8 years, this technique worked, but not this time. Wondering whether I should cancel my cancellation and then try cancelling again, but playing less hardball? And no, I don't want to go to SKY as their broadband isn't great and there will be more upheaval at home (plus I lose anything recorded on Tivo)...0 -

Someone may know more than me, but my advice would be to cancel your cancellation but don't agree new deal, just say need more time to think if they ask. Then give it a few days and cancel again.
I'm guessing the system works like this: cancel, action forwarded to retentions, retentions call. I.E. I doubt double cancelling will make much difference/make your negotiating position worse. See my post above, they weren't even bothered about other deals I had (I had none), so just hope you get a good person call you next time.
This time just make sure you agree the best deal you can get. I know from Virgin and Vodafone that unfortunately it's luck as to who calls and what they're like, next one may offer you better.0 -
Intriguing.
I've got vivid 200, TV XL with 500mb TiVo, and an additional V+ box, plus weekend calls.
I want to keep BT sport and vivid 200, but not interested in the multi room.
Bills about to go up to 93! a month...
Do people think I'd be better off phoning to just get the multiroom removed? Or phoning retentions. I want to keep the broadband and believe TV XL is the only way to get BT ...Hello There. :beer:0 -

I don't know about the packages as I'm BB-only. But I know my brother just did a retentions deal for the following which may give you some idea: £65 per month (£68 but first month half price) inc line rental, full sky sports, BT sports, upgrade to XL tv and upgrade from 50 to 100 mb
Now thing is he had full BT Sport with virgin before this deal (i.e. before upgrade to XL tv) so maybe you don't need XL tv?0 -
Retentions offered me this
100 meg BB
XL TV
EVENING AND WEEKEND CALLS
SKY MOVIES
2 TiVo boxes
1 hd box
£68 per month inc line rental
Is this a good deal0 -

Go through with the cancellation and wait for the call. Anything else will cost you more.0 -

Thanks MSE !!!!:):beer:0 -
I have been with Virgin forever, and decided that my deal of £44 a month for home phone and 100mb broadband was way too much.
I went via MSE to the latest BT deal, signed up for it and a few days later Virgin phoned me intially to deal with home phone. They asked was I on their broadband, a yes to that. Virgin told me they would phone back as I needed to discuss a date for them to disconnect me.
Later that day, retentions phoned me, asked why I was leaving to which I stated I was paying too much plus suffered outages with broadband.
They offered the same deal I was on for £14 a month, then offered 200mb line plus phone for £18 a month.
Needless to say I went for the 200mb deal.
A massive saving and better deal!
Thanks to MSE for inspiring me to get off my backside and not just be a loyal customer who never questions what we pay.0
