Almost all deals are temporary - they all expire at the end of the agreed period which is normally 12-18 months with Virgin. I got my line rental paid last year but am just at the end of my deal - price has jumped from £30 to £50 per month.
Cancellation is booked for mid Feb - waiting for a call from retentions.
Last year managed
TV M
Phone XL (anytime calls)
BB 50Mb
Multitalk1000 mins (for mobile calls )
£30/month including line rental.
Hoping for something similar this year....0 -

I cancelled my package a few weeks ago and am awaiting a call back.
Yearly negotiation, as normal.
Any deal you do is a minimum of 12 months new minimum term on the same contract.0 -

Hi everyone,
We were paying around £54 per month, which included
Weekend Phone Calls
TV Big Bang
Asian Mela Channels
Broadband up to 50Mbps
Got the letter about the price increase.
We decided on going with just the basic channels/package (Big Easy) as we hardly made use of the TV and watching all the shows. So took off the Asian Mela, and kept the broadband and phone the same.
After a few weekly calls and haggling and threatening to go to sky managed to get the price reduced with the following:
Weekend Phone Calls (Same)
TV M (Big Easy)
+4 Extra Channels for free: Sky 1, Aliba (and two others)
Broadband up to 50Mbps (Same)
+ No bill for Jan + Feb (as they gave me credit of around £70)
After 6 months the price will go up by roughly £3, so once I work it out included the free months, my new bill will be around £29.36 per month. Saving around £295 per year!
Do you think I got a good deal? or could have done better?
Also I initially did receive a new contract by post, but it was an old one which they sent based on one of the earlier phone calls i made just before the new year. I am still waiting for them to send me a new one, based on what has been agreed with in terms of the new price for the 6+6 months. When I log onto my account I see they have credited my account with £70.
When i chased them about the new contract, the first person i spoke to said that i would not receive another a new contract, but he will send me an email confirming the price changes just for my record, but I have not received this. I then called again, and another person said I should received something within the next 5-10 days by post. Still not got anything through.
I now realize that one other option would have been to go through the cancellation, and wait to see if someone calls me back?0 -
If that includes the line rental then I dont think its a bad deal at all. I'm hoping for something similar but with any time calls.0

Well I tried my luck yesterday.
Currently paying £76.63 for the big kahuna bundle with a second box, price due to increase to £80.99 or something like that!
Called up the customer retentions team and the guy I got, said the best he could do is.. add on sky sports or movies (so I opted for Sports) and then he would give me 1/2 price for 9 months.
So 9 months at £60.32 a month.... followed by 9 months at 120.64, but said I could call up at 9 months and renegotiate... pretty poor imo, so 30 notice has been handed in.
I compared what he was offering against sky and BT and he tried to tell me that Sky's current 50% off was really an 18 month contract (despite me having the T&C's for sky open and it states 12).
So we'll see if they call back or not....
The question is, when they call back.. how do they contact you (home phone or mobile?):exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
when I put in my cancellation the CS guy checked my mobile number was correct so I suspect they will try the house phone and if that fails they will call my mobile - I think thats what they did last year.
you can always phone up and get them to add your mobile number to the your account0 -
My broadband only retention deal:
From May last year my bill for 50MB rose from £15.50 steadily to £28.25 this month. I called last Friday to cancel and had a call this Monday offering me the same service for £18.25/month (£10 discount for 12 months) with 12 month minimum term. I accepted this first offer so it may have been possible to push for more but seemed a decent price for me. Will be upgraded to 70MB next month.0 -
Well they called me back within 24hrs.
Gone from £80 pcm to £49 pcm (inc line rental) for 12 months (12 month contract):
100M bb
XL TV - Tivo + V HD box
Weekend calls
Quite happy with that!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
