So got my call...very pleasant conversation - no hassle at all to do a deal, just like I expected.

    200mb BB
    XL TV
    Sky Sports / Sky Movies
    Sky HD pack
    1 x 1TB Tivo
    1 x 500GB Tivo
    Line Rental
Weekend Calls (I never use the phone)
    New Superhub

£84.99 a month - including the February increase.

Happy with that (£5 cheaper than I was paying last year).

For those who agreed to a contract before reading about the Feb price increase, I recommend calling back if you have time. I called today and they've credited my account with £47.88 to cover the increase.

    XL TV
    Line Rental
    2 x Tivo Boxes
    Big Kahuna Sports Bundle
    200mb Internet
    Newest Superhub

£68 per month including the price hike in feb.

I still haven't received a letter or email about Feb price rise. Can I still call them to try to get a better deal even without it?

    (I'm in contract).

Might be worth a try. I haven't had any contact about it, I just read about it online.

I think I'm going to give this a try. I'm on 50mb BB, TV M (with Tivobox that I don't use)and Phone M. I don't use the landline at all and hardly use the TV. I'm paying £40 pm currently, what do you think I should be aiming to get them down too? (with current package or with just BB, I wouldn't mind faster BB but not a must)

I don't mind getting rid of the landline, if I got rid of the TV will they leave me with the box and freeview or would they want that back?

Edit: forgot to ask, if you guys know any rival services that I can use for ammunition or even leave to if they don't give me a better deal.

I received the price rise letter a couple of days ago, and rang retentions to say the price has increased, and is going to increase more in Feb, and can they do anything for me before I leave.

The best they could do was reduce by £10pm to £58 for 6mths, then £60pm.

So I have given notice to cancel.

  • I'll share my experience, not sure how it'll compare.

Recently received my letter from Virgin informing me of the price increase so rang to see if I could negotiate a better deal, was offered £3 per month off my bill and no increase. Wasn't too happy so decided to move to Sky as they had a 50% off deal on the Original bundle (£36.40 with Broadband and call package), I also could get £108 cashback through Quidco. Had a call from Virgin today as Sky had initiated the switch for my phone number. They offered me my current package which was £46.99 p/m for £26.40 and credited my account to the amount of £118 (I couldn't remember how much Quidco were paying me).

So Sky would have cost me £328.80 this year (minus cashback), getting my current package now for £198.80 (minus cashback). A saving of £130! If I hadn't bothered trying to get a better deal at all I'd have paid Virgin £611.76 this year. Saved myself £412.96!

Thanks for sharing your experience brodle.

How long was it before VM called you back?

  • An update on my situation.

Every day Monday to Thursday, I've had a call from the outbound team mid afternoon while I was at work. They've been told every day that I wouldn't be home until 6pm. And each day they said they would call back when I was home. Which they didn't.

I called them Thursday evening to arrange a callback for when I was home. The guy I spoke to was friendly enough, and we arranged that someone to call me today, Saturday, between 12 and 2pm, which suited me nicely.

Friday afternoon? You guess it. They called again while I was at work. They were told about my call the night before, and that I had a callback arranged. The person who called yesterday said there was no record of that, but that he would confirm it on my account.

So here I've been, sitting all afternoon waiting for VM to call. 12-2pm has come and gone. My £100/mth doesn't seem to be that important to them.

It was only a day or so. I think it was Sky trying to take my old number that triggered it, hadn't even cancelled Virgin.
