Virgin Media Retention thread

I was coming to the end of my loyalty discount & paying £31 for 152 MB broadband only. Just got off the phone with VM after a bit of haggling I accepted £26PM for 6 Months then £31 for the next 6 months, plus the latest Superhub router for free on a 12 month contract.
Works out at £342 over 12 months. The full price without any discount would have been £492 over 12 months. So i've saved £150.
If I had cancelled I suspect retentions could have done a little better, but overall I'm quite happy with my offer.0 -
Retentions called me recently and offered the following which I'm quite happy with:
Line rental with weekend calls
100mb BB
TIVO with XL TV package
Additional v+ box
£52 per month.0 -
I have 50mb BB only and currently pay £19.50 per month. Contract will be up early August so hopefully will be able to get it down even further.0

Been offered £18.50 per month over 12 months with one of credit of £60 which brings it down to £13.50 per month. I am very happy with this deal. Just shows its worth haggling. I always go for online chat too, as you can save the transcript in case they suddenly say they didn't offer what they say they did!0 -

Hi Gary - this incenses me - I have a virgin TV/Phone/30Mb broadband package currently at £40 per month - despite several attempts to request broadband only as I only use web/surfing and not the phones/TV I am consistently told 'it cannot be done' for less than £28 per month.
I've been with Virgin now for 10 years and each year the cost goes up, I still don't use the TV/Phone (phone only in emergency) and I dont seem able to negotiate with them.
About a year ago I served notice to quit (didnt have an alternative, just so fed up) - at 28 days into the 30 day cancellation period I had a nice lady phone me from Retentions who suggested she can take £10 per month off the current cost as I am a 'valued' customer. Frustrating isnt the word. Because the speed is good/reliable-ish I took the deal.
But now I am back up to £40 with no real explanation - discount expiry, increasing network costs blah blah.
I see the deal from Sky and am seriously tempted......0 -
Virgin don't like you removing services during the contract.
They also like you to keep all 3 services.
You will just have to cancel again, find out the prices of competers, and ask them to match it when they phone up. And don't say yes straight away, check its a good deal before you say yes.
Have you paid line rental saver ? or does your price include line rent ?0 -

The package i have is
152meg BB,
TIVO 2gig, XL TV with sports and movies
XXL Phone
and i am paying about £113 a month....
We have the very top package with all they have inc phone and the top speed BB and 3 boxes, inc1 Tivo and 2 HD recordable and we are paying around £128 a month.
I hated Sky when we went with them last time but my son has just got all the above minus one box with Sky for £54. Huge difference, so big, I might have to bite the bullet.
Does anyone know what would be the best deal with Virgin for my package now?0 -

Hi Andy - I have been out of contract for about 3 years to be honest and the £40 includes line rental (not paid in advance, billed monthly). I have a code for this latest Sky offer, I spoke to VM yesterday and explained Sky's offer and said could they not even bring it down to somewhere near to £20 for BB only. After much argumentative discussion on his side obviously about poor performance from BT which he simply could not validate - I said cancel the lot please I think I have a better deal. I received an email today confirming the cancellation so have until Thursday to either take the Sky deal or wait for retentions..... to be honest I would keep the BB as its stable and fit for my usage but I just cannot justify the ever increasing costs.
Lets see what happens.0 -
Yes I have a sky code too. So I intend to run both for 6 months.
I'm not very happy with the performance of the virgin BB. It maybe fast, but I'm sick of the throttling (I assume) causing my internet connection to drop out completely.
Therefore this Sky offer will give me the chance to try something else to see if it suits me better.
I worked out that when I start paying for Sky that I would be saving £5.75 a month on what I'm paying now. (do sky do line rental in advance?)
Of course my VM price will increase a lot I expect!0 -
@Andy - actually thats not a bad shout.....
So potentially, I can also run both for the remainder of the VM 30 day cancellation period and see how Sky perform. If Sky is really poor, its not like I lost a huge amount as its only an *extra* cost of £6 max for the year.
Then if still within the 30 days i can reverse the cancellation and I'm really only about £6 or so worse off than I am currently (minus postage for the Sky Hub)
I guess the trigger will be VM picking up on the transfer of the phone line.....and the subsequent increase in monthly package if I did decide to stay.
Worth thinking about - thanks!0
