Virgin Media Retention thread

I have just phoned Virgin to cancel my contract and they offered to increase my broadband and cut my bills to just under £50 for 6 months. I refused, mainly because of the attitude of the person i spoke to yesterday. He then said he'd remove my number from their call list so that i wouldn't get any calls from them asking me to stay!!!
So I assume that I'm unlikely to get a call from their retentions dept0 -
Did the annual thing and called Virgin Media at the beginning on the month to cancel my services, citing that I’m going over to SKY.
Just had a call from retention’s who offered the following from the off (which I accepted):
New 12-Month contract (both phone & tv)
TV XL
1TB Tivo
2 x V+boxes
Phone M inc Line Rental
100MB Broadband
All of the above for £34.74 per month (all inclusive of line rental).0 -
I work during the day so if I was to put in a cancellation request, I would most likely miss any callbacks from retentions for a better offer.
Is there any way to get them to phone me when I am at home without them thinking that I am trying it on?0 -
Hi, what would be the best deal for
XL Talk Unlimited Phone and
Broadband 50mb
I am currently spending £100 with Virgin each month and looking in to downsizing.
Thanks0 -

They called me on my mobile. I didn't realise they had this number as I'm not with Virgin mobile but I must have given it when I was given an appointment with an engineer at some point0 -
I just had the retentions team on the phone and probably gave in too easily but I was relieved that they rang.
I now have XL tv, weekend calls and line rental and 100 MB broadband for just under £50 a month which I'm happy with
Edit. This is with a TiVo box and an extra HD box that you can record with0 -
I wish BT would hurry up and get fibre sorted out where I live (a suburb in London) then I would be able to genuinely play that fact against VM as I would be happy to leave if they called my bluff.
As it is, according to one of their websites, if I were to leave VM and go back to BT (and have to have a landline installed as well), the maximum speed I would be able to get would be ~18meg. I know there's places in the UK that would probably love to be able to get that where they live but I don't want to drop to that speed (which would possibly be a maximum and in reality, average out at less); 50meg maybe...
Out of all of the three services that we currently get from VM (internet, phone & TV), I'd say the internet was the most important to us. If BT had fibre installed, we'd just swap to them and take whatever their introductory offer was and then probably swap back to VM when that contract period ended since there's no incentive or benefit in being loyal these days (was it ever as far as ISPs are concerned?) as it appears that most companies run business models whereby they hook you in with sweetner deals and then bank on the majority of folks being too lazy to change. [/rant]
Anyway... our VM bill is coming in at around ~£68/pm and they've just hiked it up and up for the past couple of years, this is for 100Mb internet / M+ TV / L Phone package - and we need to get it down. Have been advised on another site to:Virgin don’t know that [BT haven't laid fibre in your street]. Call them up, ask to be put through to retentions and tell them you can get fibre from BT for cheaper (even if you cant) and that 'you don’t use the full speed' (even if you do and have no intention of leaving). I do it every year or so to get my bill down.
Worth a try?
Would happily settle on getting another contract (we've been out of one for a while) on getting offered something like what V1NNY was offered further up this thread.0 -

Are you sure the price you've quoted isn't a typo? I find it hard to believe you are getting all of that for £34.74 per month. I'm paying £65 for the same as you but with just one extra V+ box, which I know is too much. A new customer would pay £49.98 without the extra two v+ boxes which would add another £13 to that.0 -

Not a typo, that's the price I've got fixed for 12 months. I did add some premium channels on top of that, SKY Sports & Movies bundle (£34.25) and Baby TV (£3.50 per month). However these add on's do not form part of the contract and I'm able to cancel them as and when I wish, without it affecting the price of the core package.
So total price is £72.49 each month (£34.74 core package + £37.75 add on channels).
I have been a customer for 15+ years (since the cable & wireless days), so not sure if that plays a part in the deal I got offered.0 -

I'm currently paying approx £65 a month for:
XL TV
Tivo plus 1 V+ box
Line rental + weekend calls
100mb broadband
There are better similar deals out there for around £15 to £20 a month cheaper than that. When I phoned up to ask for a better price they wouldn't budge and said I'm on the best deal available, which clearly isn't the case. Even new customers are getting a better deal, so I've given them 30 days notice. No further offer was made to keep me after I done so.
I've been with Virgin for around 12 years and I'd be quite happy to remain with them if they offer a better deal, but if not then I'm equally happy to switch providers with the added bonus of TCB on top of any savings.0
