    You tend to get better deals when you cancel and enter the 30 day notice period. You can always phone back close to the cancellation date and say you would like to stay if you haven't arranged anything else or got a good enough deal. Then you can cancel again and start a new 30 day period if you wish.

  • Just renegotiated with Virgin. 50mb/s broadband for £21.50pm on a 12 month contract, but with the £7 monthly discount being applied for a duration of 18 months (normal price £28.50pm).

    This is for broadband only. I don't have a fixed line telephone, as you don't need one with Virgin.

    Called Virgin this afternoon (line rental deal expires end of Dec) mentioned that due to the price increase I had looked around and seen cheaper offers.

    I was paying £8.15 per month for 20mb Broadband and Phone with free weekend calls, having paid £120.00 for the line rental a year ago. (so £18.15 per month)

    They offered me a broadband boost of upto 50mb, a new router and the same phone package for £8.50 per month, with an upfront line rental of £144.00. I mentioned that I was looking to pay less and not more (I know its only 35p) but coupled with the line rental its still an additonal £28.20 a year, and pushes the true monthly cost to £20.50

    I then mentioned the current EE offer, broadband & calls at £1.95, which when you include line rental comes in at £12.95 a month, nearly eight quid cheaper.

    The chap I was speaking to was fixated on the speed difference rather than price, even when it was acknowledged I didn't need the faster speed. He didn't seem to think this was an issue and audibly sighed when I said we'd have to part company if they didn't budge on price.

    In the end I gave notice, so have 30 days to find something else. I was just amazed that he didn't make more of an effort. Should I now expect a call from them asking me to reconsider & make an improved offer??

    He's right. EE BB doesnt compare to the fibre product VM offer. You miht get a call back from the outbound retentions team with a slightly better offer, but they are highly unlikely to match EE.
  • You can't really expect to go to any company to order something extra and then expect them to do a price reduction deal.

    The name retentions is just what it means - retaining customers who are threatening to leave, not giving discounts to customers ordering more.

    Your approach should have been: "Sky have offered me x at £y, so I want to leave you. Then await the offer. That's how I did the deal for my sister and reduced her price from £54 to £34 per month for a year.

  • This is an interesting thread. I am looking at trying to wager a better deal with VM.
    My package is:
    Multi Talk 1000 (my wife calls home), Free Voicemail, TiVo Monthly Fee, Talk Unlimited, TV Size M+, Broadband L (Up To 30mb)

    for £43.65. But add on line rental = £59.64. Plus any am/pm calls. I recently got a (no contract) deal with all Sky Sports channels inclusive for £74.00, which goes up £10 now and I recieved a letter from VM saying there will be a monthly increase of £4.99 from February.

    Got to cut down somewhere.

    Hi all I went back to Virgin in september from BT on their big kahuna package the deal was 50.99 for 12 months 60.99 for the remaining six of the contract I also got a £90 credit on my bill and £110 paid cashback from top cashback, Just before christmas I recieved a letter stateing a £4.50 increase in my bill which I was very unhappy about, I rang retentions and spoke to a very harrassed guy he stated that 90% of his recent calls were about this price rise, he said marketing have dropped it on them and now he and the other telephone staff are picking up the pieces and abuse.
    I had a chat and told him im more than happy with the service and products im getting, I just don't agree with the price rise so soon he came back with a £40 credit and free sky movies and sports for three months he said there is nothing they can do about the price rise except offset it in other ways. fair play to him for being honest and it was because of this I took him up on his offer.

    My advice to anyone not happy is ring the retentions guys but be nice to get the best conclusion for you, I certainly wouldnt want to do their jobs at the moment.

    I was wondering if anyone can help me?

    I was offered a deal to remain with Virgin Media as I was out of contract. Basically, it is XL TV, Sky Sports & Movies, HD, basic telephone and 100mb broadband. It averaged out at £82 per month for a 12 month contract.

    I accepted the deal but when I got home, there was a message from the same agent who offered me the deal, to say he had made a mistake and he is unable to honour it.

    As I accepted the deal on the phone, is that not a verbal contract and do they have the right to cancel?

    I'd appreciate anyone's comments on this.

  • If you used that excuse to try to get out of a contract after agreeing it, what would Virgin's reaction be?
