I am not in a contract because I have been with them 6 years unless they do a 72 month contract lol
You may have renewed in the past and not realised, when you make a change to your service you may have re-contracted for another 12 months. As examples, our taking a Tivo meant another 12 month contact, adding a new tv box in the past may have renewed your minimum term.
That said if they sent you boxes your probably out of any minimum term, however I suspect as you don't take many services then they don't make much from you, and they don;t need to offer much to you. You may be like me, with legacy discounts that mean they may well prefer not to keep you as a customer.0 -

I have Virgin package L-TV, 50mb Broadband, M phone.
I rang Virgin earlier this year to try and get my bill down.
Like you craig I was happy with the broadband, after a chat they offered to upgrade the box to Tivo and my package price dropped to £42 this includes a £7 loyalty and another £5 loyalty discount but the £5 is due to end soon,
I am sure there are people who have got better deals than this but I was happy with it and it was a reduction on what I was paying.
My son phoned Virgin to see if he could get a better deal for himself and was told nothing available until he quoted to them exactly what I was getting and for the price I was paying. They then offered him a better deal.
Seems to me it depends who you speak to when you phone!0 -
I phoned them today as my broadband has been down this afternoon "working now" and I told the broadband team to put me through to retentions to have another chat.
This advisor was a little more obliging he is sending me a free Tivo box and upgrading my broadband to 100meg adding a phone line and all this for only an extra £5 a month because he is giving me £6 discount for 6 months and £5 discount for 12 months.
So I agree it is all down to who you speak to0 -
Just thought I would let you know what I was offered from Virgin this morning. I gave my notice 2 days earlier and had a call today asking if they could do anything to help me.
I mentioned I was a previous customer of sky and they offered 50% discount to tempt me back. I gave them a price I would be looking to pay with virgin and they matched it!
I have TV in lounge and 2 other recordable boxes in bedrooms.
XL TV
Sky Sports
50mb BB
Evening and Weekend Calls
Line Rental
They have agreed to stay with above except remove evening calls which I don't use anyway and upgrade BB to 152mb and send new router.
I was paying £70 last year on retentions deal and this month is was due to jump to £97:eek:
They have agreed on £63 for 6 mths and £68 for following 6 mths.
12mth contract. No increases and I managed to talk him into 6 mths netflix too.
So we now have:
3 Boxes (1 Tiv0, 2 recordable boxes)
XL TV
Sky Sports
152mb BB
Weekend Calls + Line Rental
6 mths Netflix
£63 for 6 mths and £68 for remainder.
I have just had an email which states I have paid line rental saver which I have not, he did say it was a way of discounting the package for me by giving free line rental.
I will double check everything in a couple of days just to make sure.
Hope that helps:D0 -
I've been a Virgin broadband customer for 8 years and never bothered asking for a price reduction.
Anyhow price just went up £2 a month ago to £27.75 a month. So I got on the phone, and they offered me a load of stuff I was not interested in like 50meg BB and tv/phone packages. So she put me through to the retention team where they offered me a £16.50 p/m for 18 months, subject to price changes with a new 12 month contract.
Snapped it up.0 -
Trying to help reduce my parents Virgin Media bill and have already phoned retentions without much success. How much should I be looking to get the following for?
-Phone M (Talk Evening and Weekends Local)
-TV Size L
-Broadband M (Up To 20mb)
(Line Rental already paid with "12 Month Line Rental Saver")
Currently paying £37.90 a month
They dont need faster broadband, or a bigger phone package, but it needs to be TV Size L as my dad loves the National Geographic Channel, and if they dropped down to the TV Size M+ package they would lose that.
Any advice would be much appreciated0 -
Hi Link83. If you click Build a Bundle on VM's site you will see that 50Mb BB, TV L and M phone is advertised at £36.50. Not much of a saving admittedly but it's a start. BB speed needs increasing for the amount they are paying.
I'm not sure if VM will be too willing to haggle at this point as the line rental has already been paid. Renewal time is best. Someone else who has been in a similar position may be able to help more with that.0
