Just got a call from virgin randomly. Im currently on the big kahuna.

They offered me sky sports+movies in HD for an extra £30 a month.

    Is that a decent deal?
  • Just cancelled with VM. Not so easy as they have been having "systems issues".

The best that inbound retentions would offer was £35.75 for BB and unlimited Phone. Which is frankly nowhere near competitive enough.

Will probably go plusnet who are doing same for £17.48 if you factor in the £75 amazon voucher or £23.73 if not.

Will give outbound retentions a day or so before signing up but I don't think that VM are even close to competitive at the moment. Sure the plusnet broadband is slower ... but not not worth the extra IMHO.

    My package includes:
    Talk International
    Talk Unlimited
    Itemised Billing
Loyalty pack: Phone, broadband and TV M
    TV size M
    Broadband L (up to 20mb)
    Line rental

    TOTAL: £41.18

Is anyone else on a similar package and successfully lowered the price through calling retentions? I'm still using the old flat modem because the newer ones weren't compatible with my computer and kept failing to connect. Maybe I could use this as a way of having the bill reduced a little?

It looks like you have a similar package to me Trevor, and we're paying pretty much the same price. I doubt they'll go much lower than this, but if you succeed in lowering your bill, let me know. I'll do likewise.

Been offered sky sports for a tenner a month for 3 months. Had to take it.
  • Hi all
Switched from sky to VM in September ( big kahuna,bb + phone + sky sport) Being pestered by sky to switch back. Now VM's price increase in Feb means I'll be paying a lot more than when I was with sky. Any advice re- haggling? Would like to keep fibre optic broadband. Thanks.

    Hi

    I currently have 100mb broadband
    medium phone

    and paying £25 per month

i've been always getting around 16mb internet even when i was on the 30mb then upgraded to 50mb and now been "supercharged" to 100mb i never ever come any where near had engineer out, reset the modem from their side, changed the superhub 2 had the asus dark night set up but no change and fed up paying for something i'm not getting...

so is there something better out there or whats the lowest i should be paying around for what i'm getting.

    thanks
  • How can they justify a 20% plus increase on the package price, currently £16.50 per month plus line rental?
They messed up my line rental saver this year so that doesn't run out till April instead of February. Only have free calls at weekends. They charged me for ringing my mobile, despite it not connecting (wasn't answered, don't have voicemail on). Keep having problems with the wifi dropping out too.
Definitely looking elsewhere just a bit annoyed that means either accepting their extortionate increase for a few months or losing 3 months line rental.

I cancelled with Virgin a month ago and arranged to go to sky with no real intention of doing so, I was just trying to trigger a better offer. No call back from retentions. I gave in a few days ago and called them myself to try to get them to make me an offer. I pointed out that my equipment was stone age and that my picture kept freezing, which was part of the reason for me cancelling my subscription - the offer was to talk to faults (as in !!!!!! I'm telling you here that I've cancelled the service!). It was like talking to a wall. In the end I had to tell them I wanted them to make me an offer. Got put through to retentions who said my tel no was already ported and it was too late. When I pushed some more they said they could port it back and made me an offer, not a great one. According to the woman I spoke to, sky are making a loss on the offers they are making at the minute and Virgin can't even try to pricematch. I would say they were actively trying to lose me as a customer.

DH is worried about us having a dish so I phoned sky to cancel anyway and take the worse offer from VM. Sky said the engineer callout is free so why not see if they could site the dish somewhere convenient, if not no charge. Their helpfulness contrasted strongly with VM!

The difference between the two companies could not have been clearer. I'm not a Murdoch fan by any means but sky appear to actually care about what their customers want. VM don't give a toss frankly. If we can get the dish sited somewhere that DH can live with I'm voting with my feet.

    For info the offers are:
    VM
Currently paying £59.14 for 20mb BB, XL TV and XL phone
Offer of same BB, XL tv and basic phone for £60.49 (ie worse off than we are now!) or the same with M TV which would bring it to £42pm in total
    Sky
Offer of Sky + HD, Family TV unlimited broadband and basic phone with free weekends £40.15
