That's what concerns me a bit. The £29 deal I got 10 days ago will probably double in price at the end of the 12 months. By then, it will be difficult to downgrade from this packet, or even leave. I wouldn't have minded of this was a 18 month contract

You mean cancel now? You're kidding, right? :) didn't you get the same?
  • Hi, I have been with virgin media for about 6 years, I had tv but not sports/movies and I had broadband. I called them 6 days ago to have a phone line put on and see what deals they could do me and was shocked to be told they couldn't do anything but give me a phone line at full price and they suggested I downgrade me tv package if I wanted to save money

I have the L tv with M broadband and another box in the bedroom and none of the boxes are TiVo or recordable which my mates cant believe I cant record tv.
I told virgin I could get a better deal with sky and they basically said to me to save money just downgrade my tv.
I was so angry with them I cancelled my account and gave my 30 days notice. I was expecting a call back but I have had nothing and yesterday I received the packaging to send the boxes back to them. what I want to know is do they phone people back with a better offer even if they have sent out the packaging to return the tv boxes???

I don't really want to leave because the broadband is so good with virgin, should I phone them back with tail between my legs or wait for a call back??
  • If you can get a better deal with Sky why don't you just go with them?
  • The only thing putting me off the sky package is the broadband. I have read loads of horror stories regarding gaming issues using there broadband service. Unless anyone on here can convince me otherwise.

you should have waited till the end of your contract to make changes.

yeah it sounds like you need to phone them back

or work out how many days you have to cancel the cancellation!
  • I am not in a contract because I have been with them 6 years unless they do a 72 month contract lol

How old is your house and how good is the internal telephone wiring?

If you go for fibre with Sky, it'll come through the phone line (the BT-installed one, not the Virgin one). You'll have to plug the router into the master socket. Our master socket is right behind our front door - exactly where you don't want to position a router!

Sky Fibre will work on some phone extension points, but you can lose a lot of speed if you have old or poor quality wiring to that extension point.

We've recently switched from normal Sky bb (not fibre) to Virgin, because they were offering free installation. To go to Sky Fibre, we would have either had to pay Openreach £90 to move our master socket, or get a local phone wiring company round to install decent quality extension points. Virgin phone and broadband was about the same price as Sky, and installed as a brand new socket, exactly where we wanted it, for free. :)

Compare how much you'll save with Sky with the cost of getting your phone points sorted to how you want them.

If your house is new or your phone master socket already well located, switch to Sky.

Having said that, I've had no end of problems with our cancellation of phone and broadband - early termination charges applied even though we're not in contract (which they're refunding) and delays in porting our phone number. Admin wise, Sky are atrocious and what should have been simple has led to me spending about three hours in total on the phone to them so far!

Its that time of the year again - after the manually applied discount ran out the disconnection request is in.

Offer from inbound retentions was pitiful - £4.50 discount (on a £120 a month bill).

Let's see what they come through with this time round...

So given I put in the disconnection at 10am Saturday I wasn't expecting to hear from VM for a while, after all the inbound retention team told me they 'only' call back '10% or so'.

They called this morning - and they even beat last years deal.

    Bundle is as follows:

    152mb BB
    XL TV
    Sky Sports and Movies
    Sky HD
    Tivo 500GB
    Tivo 1TB
    Line Rental
    Weekend calls

    £112.49 list price

Priced £89.99 a month including line rental (price includes the increase due in February).

Once again, proves you only get the best deals out of VM if you go through with the cancellation!
