Failing that on the day before the disconnection is due, do i call up if i have heard nothing? Surely thats showing a sign of weekness, that i want to stay?
    Yes it does.
If they can't contact you by telephone, they will of course write to you with offers.

That all sounds ok, except that im not in the house all that often, work keeps me out alot where im usually in the house until 10:30 am and not in again until after 8pm.

The only day off in the week is a Monday...eeek i hope they catch me.

How can i change my contact details so its my mobile number they ring on?

I was thinking of the same thing except with work etc. Not sure if they called my house phone but they did leave me voice mails on my mobile and we sorted out a deal there.

You make sure the agent includes your mobile number in your notes as part of your cancellation. Although VM usually have a mobile number stored for you in cases where they are dealing with a problem where your home line doesn't work.

Never had any cancellation request specific offers by written means - infact don't ever recall having any customer specific offers through, just new customer rubbish.

Don't email them as the cancellation department won't be able to offer you a decent deal. I spent an hour on the phone to them because i was paying £72 for a package that was currently £62 for new customers. Cancellation department tried to get me to stay but they couldn't give me much discount due to the fact that it was a new "package". I said to the lady i would like to proceed with the cancellation and the call ended there. Just 2 days later i had a call from outbound cancellations as expected and now im on the same deal paying £43.

My advice to you is to cancel and then let retentions call you ;)

    A little update:

I decided to get over my nerves and give them a call - I said I wanted to cancel and got transferred to another department straight away.

I then had a lovely conversation full of pleasantries and general chit chat with a delightful sounding lady called Emma.

She put my internet UP to 152mb, I kept my full tv package, but reduced phone from XL to L as we only use it on evenings generally anyway so my other half can phone her parents.

Reduced package from £120 to £75 for the next 6 months.
  • I am a very low user - broadband only - but still managed to get nearly 40% discount on monthly rate just by asking today.

Missed a call yesterday and today from the winback team. Damn :(
  • Just phoned up as my 30mb broadband only was going up to 27.65 a month, and it has been reduced to 19 so well impressed for the sake of a phone call.
Mortgage when started: £78,314 :- 10 year fixed till Feb 2019
    Current mortgage (September 2016):£Paid
    Mortgage free day: Feb 2020
  • Had the win back call.. Not sure if its a great price but i took it anyway. I now only have 50 Meg internet, a new 12 month contract and a credit of £20. Will be £14.50 per month, so using the credit, free for the first month, £9 the second then for the last 10 will be £14.50.

As i said maybe not the best deal...thoughts?

Got a random call from virgin. They offered me sky sports on a rolling contract with 3 months at £13 and the standard 30 after that.

    Sounds decent.

    Sounds decent.

You can get 10 months for £150 upfront- so not that decent given you will be on a 12month contract
