Virgin Media Retention thread

  • Not on the cable service, but part of the VirginMedia group, indirect service with them over my BT line.

Been paying £15 per month for unlimited broadband and evening & weekend calls. Saw the latest deal from Sky offereing same deal for £10 per month with the first 3 months free.

Called Virgin for a MAC code and explained the deal I was offered with SKY, they've bettered it at £7.50 per month !!!!

50% discount from what I'm currently paying !!!!!!! Good result me thinks :T

Had to sign up to a new 12 month contract, but was going to be doing that with SKY anyways.
  • I currently have broadband M, TV XL and phone M with VM and my monthly bill is around £38.00. My 12 month contract is just up.

I want to downgrade to TV L - I see on their homepage they have a triple bundle for BB M, TV L and phone M for £19 a month - is that only for new customers, or can I ring them and haggle?

If I have no joy, is it worth saying to them I will cancel VM and then come back as a new customer to get the £19 a month deal? Any advice appreciated. :)

Andromeda - see my response a few places above your post. I recently renewed my deal with Virgin and was paying £30 per month for XL TV with V+, M Phone (no VM though) and M Broadband. I've now signed a new 12 month contract for exactly the same services at a price of £32.75 (which includes the £1 ebilling discount). I did this through the "thinking of leaving us" option on 150. Good luck!

If you are past your 12 months minimum term, then a call to retentions telling them you want to cancel as you can get Sky+ for £49 and list the products you can get and for what price, they usually offer you a deal to stay.

My wife called them this afternoon. I'd done some research and written down all we could get with Sky so my wife knew what she was talking about when she called, but the guy from VM wasn't interested. He countered everything she said in search for a discount - you don't get a warranty on Sky box, their broadband is via copper wires, you'll only get 6mb (we're ~450 metres from exchange), you have to pay line rental, you have to pay extra for the 'mixes', their HD channels are rubbish, etc, etc and wouldn't offer us anything.

We'll try calling back another day, see if a different agent is any better. But I'm really tempted to stuff 'em and switch. It'll probably cost me the same each month, but at least I'll have more choice when it comes to choosing providers later on. (At the moment I'm stuck with VM for everything.)

Was that retentions or normal CS?

Had another family member only contact VM Friday and managed to get a good deal, so they are still offering them, though you have to sound like you mean it when you say you want to cancel it all.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    Retentions.
  • Definately try again with a different person-I rang on Monday, guy in normal CS offered me V+ for £75 plus XL TV for an extra £7, said had to check with OH, rang back, spoke to retentions-girl said would have to pay £99 for V+, and to get XL TV with my L BB and M phone (incl line rental) would be £53 per month (as opposed to £35 first guy said) She was very adamant that he had given me wrong info, and she would "have words". I said fine, would go to sky, and rang off. Rang retentions back and spoke to someone else (straight away) got my V+ for £75, and XL TV for extra £10 (extra £7 was if BB was M) She even rang me back yesterday to make sure I knew V+ was £75 as the 2nd one had obviously updated records saying I was told £99.
So moral is-try again, you will probably get someone nicer :)

I've finally got my house move completed. I previously had XL BB (£37) and wanted to move house and change it to: L BB, XL TV, V+. I've managed to get this for £35.50 and free installation. I didn't want the phone.

I had to speak to a few people before I got this and from my experience, the house move team are a lot more clued up (some of them anyway) than the retenetions as thats who I got the deal from.

The guy I spoke to said that they can use their own discretion for discounts but since some staff are new they don't know about this. If you mention that you are thinking of moving to Sky, they should give you a discount to keep you rather than let you go to a competitor.

I couldn't think of another place to ask this, so here goes:

I have all three services from VM. Does anyone happen to know if you cancel one of them (I'm considering TV) does it start a new 12 month contract?

I know adding a service would do so, but I don't want to tie myself into another year with them by simply wanting to cut my costs.
