Rang up retentions and managed to get the monthly payment down from £7 to £2.50 a month until Feb (then £4.50/month) by dumping the free evening calls we don't even use. That's for 30mb broadband and basic phone, with 250 free 0845/0870 minutes.

I'll always end up finding people who have a better deal, but it's good to be have a settled price for another year!
What do you pay per month & for what exactly ?

Yes, annual £120 LRS plus £4 month, so the equivalent of £14 a month.

How on earth did you manage to get it down so low? And what were the other bits and pieces you mentioned?

How does your "My VirginMedia" bills page break down the payment, if you don't mind me asking? I've been looking into this a lot and yours seems an astonishingly good deal, so I'd love to know how it's constructed.

I was paying £17.10/month (including £10/month LRS) for 30mb broadband and phone with free evening/weekend calls, plus 250 mins to 0845/0870 numbers.

After today's call I got it down to £12.50/month by downgrading the phone to free weekend calls only, although we've kept the 250 0845/0870 minutes. The £12.50 will rise to £14.50/month in Feb.

Although the person you really should be querying is Altarf, who is getting what I paid £17 for, for £14/month, without downgrading anything. I don't even see how it's possible..

You're paying £14 a month total for BB, Phone Line, Line Rental and a few bits and bobs?

Can't be. There is simply no way that's possible (I have had three different retention reps tell me the same minimum costs no matter what and they are add up to more than you are paying).

That is what i thought. I'm sure he's telling the truth, but it must be a glitch or something. After all, from the position I was in (£17.10/month) I was able to reduce the package to £12.50 by dropping evening calls. That's a £4.60 reduction. So if Altarf did the same as me, VM would be crediting his bill every month! I'd drop evening calls just to see that happen :rotfl:

What are the absolute minimum costs you have been told, visidigi?

Got the letter saying there will be a 4.50 increase. I currently pay 32.99 per month including line rental for:
    TV M+
    30mb
    Weekend phone

Do you think I could haggle for a free superhub 2 or even 60mb broadband?

Called retentions and the best they could offer was free tivo box and the price would be £36.99. (A 50p decrease)

    Should i accept?

    No.

    Cancel.

    Wait for call.

If they don't call, take offer. Nothing lost.

I don't doubt he's telling the truth - but even with a 100% line rental discount (which I got - so I know that's possible) its still doesn't seem right. I'm still awaiting my contract details through, as it was an outbound retention deal I need to see it in writing as VM's systems cant usually cope with them.

The minimum costs weren't far off what you were paying to be honest....

But if a 100% line rental discount is possible, surely that would mean I could get my current deal for £2.50/month? I wish I'd thought to ask for some line rental discount!

What is your current deal if you don't mind me asking? And what actually were the minimum costs?
