we have decided to cancel our TV and phone package with VM, we got the dreaded letter in and the price was going up £5.50 a month, hubby and i sat down and had a good chat, we dont watch TV at all, it's all rubbish all of it, and out of 30 phone calls 29 of them are people trying to sell me solar panels, PPI, new boilers and debt management deals.

we have had one retentions guy phone us up and whilst he didnt seem happy that he was losing us for the phone and tv he was glad we were still there for the BB... we will be cancelling our TV license shortly and all in all save ourselves over £500 a year, so £500 a year that we spent on stuff we dont watch and answering phone calls from people we didnt want to talk to

i'm happy, and hubby has 120meg download now as well so he is happy as well

Could you give a rough idea of what you pay each month now for just the 120 mb service ?
  • My steps to a cheaper deal =)

    So I'm on 60mb at £35pm

I get a letter stating a price increase of £3.25....

Call Virgin, ask how long my contract has left
    Answer - nothing
My reply - can i speak to the retention team please
    Answer - yes of course

    Retention team
I say - my speed is throttling and I'm not happy
Answer - we will send out an engineer
I say - ok and what can we do about the price
Answer - we will give , 60mb to 120mb upgrade, a new super hub 2 and drop your price to £33pm including the line rental and price increase (Price stays at £33 for the whole contract period of 18 months.
    I say - jobs a good un =)

They carried my loyalty discount over and quadrupled it ;)

Crikey. When you still had a year of an existing loyalty bonus to go? And they quadrupled it from what to what? And on what package?

If they quadrupled my loyalty discount they'd be paying me £30 a month :D

Hi all, this is my new deal after speaking with retentions just now. I was out of contract as of this month. Premier collection.

    Broadband 60MB with Superhub
TV XL (includes BT Sport for free)
    Tivo 500mb
    V+ HD in other room
    Talk Weekends

All for £37 per month for 6 months then £42 for remaining 6 months of contract.

I have also paid the £120 line rental saver in advance so above figures need £10 adding on. i.e. £47 for 6 months then £52 for last 6 months.

I have the exact same package with Superhub 2. Best deal I've been offered is £47 per month plus £120 upfront line rental; works out at the equivalent of £7.50 per month more than you! How on earth did you get that deal???

In October my Broadband only (30mb) cost went up from £21 to £24.15. Just wondered how that compares with other people? Am I being done?

    Badly.

£14 per month, for 30Mb broadband, a phone line with evening and weekend calls, and a few other bits and bobs, but no TV.

Got the letter saying there will be a 4.50 increase. I currently pay 32.99 per month including line rental for:
    TV M+
    30mb
    Weekend phone

Do you think I could haggle for a free superhub 2 or even 60mb broadband?

So you will be paying them £450 per year.

Yes I think they could spring for £15 worth of superhub 2 or the zero cost of 60Mb broadband (which you probably won't notice).

Wouldn't it be better to see if you could drive the price down?

The priority is definitely getting the price down.

what are the other bits and bobs, if you don't mind me asking? And how did you get it so low? I thought I was doing well at £17 a month!

is that £14/month including line rental? so 30mb broadband plus a phone package for £4 a month with LRS?
