You could be waiting a very long time as they never called me back.

Third year I have had to do it.

They tend to only ever call home phones, not mobiles, which doesn't help.

If they don't call then I go back to the table to discuss. Sky is disconnecting Dec 23rd, Virgin a few days later...

We will see - it depends what you've asked for as to whether they ring...it also depends on what the agent says in the notes about the possiblity for negotiation...
  • Hi all, this is my new deal after speaking with retentions just now. I was out of contract as of this month. Premier collection.

    Broadband 60MB with Superhub
TV XL (includes BT Sport for free)
    Tivo 500mb
    V+ HD in other room
    Talk Weekends

All for £37 per month for 6 months then £42 for remaining 6 months of contract.

I have also paid the £120 line rental saver in advance so above figures need £10 adding on. i.e. £47 for 6 months then £52 for last 6 months.

This is the very best deal he would offer me and would not budge on anything else. He also said that I would NOT have to pay the price increase in Feb next year because it was already worked into my new deal.

What do you guys think? Is this a decent deal for the stuff I'm getting? Can't help thinking that I could have bargained a bit harder and got some more sweeties from him. He also offered me 6 months free Netflix but I declined this as Netflix only shows out of date films.

Hope this helps others in their bargaining.;)

By the way, the offers from the competition are really crap compared to what VM offer. It's the best broadband by a country mile and the superhub has never let us down yet. It's such a shame that the competition isn't better to give a genuine alternative to VM.
  • well, i put in my notice because of price increase
atm on 30mb broadband only 22.50 minus 5 pounds loyalty dicount so paying 17.50. Virgin wants increase of 2 pounds from febriary to 19.50. gentleman on the phone said that the best price they can offer is 21.50. Well I shall wait and see if anybody phones.
PS Virgin's super hyper ultra fast broadband is a scam. In reality when using connection for p2p, streaming or newsgroups never goes over 4mbs not talking about outages and peak times. plusnet with cashback and landline works out 7.75 a month for 12 month contract.

Then when they don't, you can look forward to carp ADSL BB and slower speeds. They've seen it all before! The slash and burn approach only works if you are going to something better.
Not always the case. I have a BT BB account estimated as 16Mb/s which on average provides about 22Mb/s. Whereas my Virgin Media 20Mb/s account gives an average of about 9Mb/s. I do live close to the local exchange which no doubt is a major factor.

  • In addition to £120 line rental, I pay £21 for 20mb bb, TV m+ and free weekend calls. My bill was due to go up by £11.50 due to a £4.50 price rise plus the expiry of a £7 discount period which I was on.

A quick phone call and they've offered to up the bb to 30mb and send out a new hub - at a cost of £22 per month (12 mth contract). I'm pretty chuffed with the outcome.

Got a call from Virgin Media today asking me why I was elaving.

Joined last March, 18month contract, 3 months free, next 9 at £38.90 then last 6 at full package price ..something like £68

Tivo + 2nd HD Box, XL TV, 60meg BB, medium phone + line rental.

I told him it was the price rise and he couldn't seem to get his head around me wanting to leave ...just before my price rise went up to over £70 (with the price increase).

Offered £5 a month off to offset the rise, but not interested.

Got my call today - deal done :)

The inbound offer made was looking for £109.93 + £49.95 installation of the second TiVO - I already have a 1tb installed from before.

Deal done at £90.49 a month - and no installation charge on a 500gb box.

Got to the end of the call and the woman asked me how I knew so much about the vm workings and had I ever worked for vm before, my reply, 6 years of practise at the cancellation merry-go-round.

Happy to be a non sky customer now - my new deal saves money on my previous sky/virgin/bt sports setup - finally got the same channels on both boxes again, same remote oh and no price rise either :)
  • In October my Broadband only (30mb) cost went up from £21 to £24.15. Just wondered how that compares with other people? Am I being done?
  • just had letter for £7.75 increase

I don't seem to have received a letter regarding a price increase yet. Have they all gone out already?

Also, my contract expires 24/1/14, which is also the date my current line rental saver (LRS) expires. The other day, I received a letter from VM informing me that the LRS is increasing in price, but I can lock in to the current price for another year if I stick around for another year. According to what I've read on MSE, the LRS price increase doesn't happen until February, but the letter gives me a deadline of 6th December to lock in at the lower price. Has anyone else had this?

I get the impression that VM are trying to get me to commit to 12 months before I ring up to renegotiate my deal near the contract end date, so that I have no leverage, as I'm already tied in. But if new customers can get the £120 LRS until the end of January, why can't I?

All very confusing :( I'll be ringing to have my annual shout at them next week, but I thought I'd canvass the MSE hive mind first :)
