well, i put in my notice because of price increase
atm on 30mb broadband only 22.50 minus 5 pounds loyalty dicount so paying 17.50. Virgin wants increase of 2 pounds from febriary to 19.50. gentleman on the phone said that the best price they can offer is 21.50. Well I shall wait and see if anybody phones.
PS Virgin's super hyper ultra fast broadband is a scam. In reality when using connection for p2p, streaming or newsgroups never goes over 4mbs not talking about outages and peak times. plusnet with cashback and landline works out 7.75 a month for 12 month contract.
Got phone call from retention today. I mentioned plusnet deal which works out 10.99 plus 2.75 a month for unlimited package. Gentleman went to speak to his manager and came with offer of 19.50 a month with to months free which is effectively 16.25 a month for only broadband 30mbs. I took it as was paying 17.50 prior to that. Not chuffed really as I know limitations of virgins broadband but, better the devil you know then... All in all result!!!

I don't seem to have received a letter regarding a price increase yet. Have they all gone out already?

Also, my contract expires 24/1/14, which is also the date my current line rental saver (LRS) expires. The other day, I received a letter from VM informing me that the LRS is increasing in price, but I can lock in to the current price for another year if I stick around for another year. According to what I've read on MSE, the LRS price increase doesn't happen until February, but the letter gives me a deadline of 6th December to lock in at the lower price. Has anyone else had this?

I get the impression that VM are trying to get me to commit to 12 months before I ring up to renegotiate my deal near the contract end date, so that I have no leverage, as I'm already tied in. But if new customers can get the £120 LRS until the end of January, why can't I?

All very confusing :( I'll be ringing to have my annual shout at them next week, but I thought I'd canvass the MSE hive mind first :)

The two are independent, get your deal the call and pay the less if you want it.

Not sure I understand this reply, but they're not really independent. If I sign up to the LRS by some arbitrary deadline in December, then I can't ring up in January and say I'm thinking about leaving because I will already be tied in for a further 10 months. The LRS is non-refundable if I cancel my contract when it ends.

    Dodgy.

Ring up now, invoke right to cancel due to price increase.

Do deal. Call and pay lrs.

Personally I won't pay lrs, too many price rises occurring ;)

    No reason why not...
  • just had letter for £7.75 increase

i had a letter stating mines was going up £7.00 per month. relatives were less than this and on higher packages. When i called the chap i spoke to said it didnt sound right as he thought there was a cap of £5.50. He went and spoke to a 'manager' and called me back and said indeed £5.50 is the most it should go up by. I would give them a quick call and query this. He asked me to send him a copy of my letter too.

Ah, I see. Smart. Yes, that is sort of my plan. I spoke to VM earlier and my Phone+30mb BB bundle is increasing by £2, so I might give negotiating a try. I have a loyalty bonus for another year though, so I don't want to lose that as it makes my current bundle price pretty low (£7.10 a month, rising to £9.10. plus £10/month LRS), so maybe not worth the bother.

we have decided to cancel our TV and phone package with VM, we got the dreaded letter in and the price was going up £5.50 a month, hubby and i sat down and had a good chat, we dont watch TV at all, it's all rubbish all of it, and out of 30 phone calls 29 of them are people trying to sell me solar panels, PPI, new boilers and debt management deals.

we have had one retentions guy phone us up and whilst he didnt seem happy that he was losing us for the phone and tv he was glad we were still there for the BB... we will be cancelling our TV license shortly and all in all save ourselves over £500 a year, so £500 a year that we spent on stuff we dont watch and answering phone calls from people we didnt want to talk to

i'm happy, and hubby has 120meg download now as well so he is happy as well
