Do i let them cut me off and wait and hope to get an offer or call up and ask what they can do?
Really dont wanna be without Internet as i watch a lot online..
Its a shame they have so many that sometimes if you miss their call you are scuppered. They will also work through those cases which have maximum ROI for the company first, e.g. they wont want to lose a VIP customer versus a BB only customer.
If you're due to go off tomorrow, ring them and go equipped, go with what you have as an alternative written down so you know where you are bargaining from. They use Samknows etc to check what you can get, they know the internet is a bargain for what it is with them. Is TV an option for you? Maybe say you're happy with what you pay, but you want more for your money, this has proven to gain you a greater proportional 'discount' in the past for me (although when you are VIP there is little they can do but lower the price...).0 -
After calling up and getting nowhere I gave notice of termination, fully expecting retentions to call and they didn't. Service disconnected and no tv or internet.
Was the same with me except I had broadband only, the best they could offer was £20.50/month. Let it cancel and have received no calls, wonder if they're starting to ignore the odd cancellation.
Just waiting for a decent new customer deal now but I doubt it will come.Member of Scotwest Credit Union0 -
cancelled in Monday after being offered TVM, TIVO, 30mb broadband and weekend calls for £33 per month.
not had a call back yet, disconnection is 8th January.
hope the !!!!ers give me call soon so i can sort it out0 -
Got told that the price i pay for talk unlimited and 60 meg is best i will ever get anywhere! I pay £28.24 to go up by £3.50 in Feb.
Gutted as i wanted to pay less each month but not drop any services haha0 -
Well I've given my 30 days notice, let's see if I receive a call.0
-
I have been paying £30.50 /month for
BB L 38mb for £15.65
Weekend calls for £15
Got an email telling me of £3 increase, so I called today to give notice.
The lady at customer service offered me the same package, but dropping my effective price by £4:
BB L 38mb for £10.50 and then £12.50 from February for a new 12 month contract
Advised me to take the £120/year land-line
(effective yearly cost being £268)
When I took the initial contract, Virgin were the only Fibre Optic option, but NOW I can take any of EE Fibre, Talk Talk or even BT Infinity!
I am tempted by the exact same EE deal giving me :
£7.50 a month for 3 months
Then £15 a month
Yearly line rental £132
Connection is £25???
Total yearly cost £314.50 if there is a connection charge
Effective yearly cost of £210 if I get to TopCashBack of £105
I left it for now, but hope to be able to reduce the VM package to £17.50 - effectively matching EE package after cash back
I will keep you posted0 -
I had no call back so rang day before disconnection.
I settled on same package as I have now L BB, M+TV, E&W calls. £29 per month after the price rise next year. I have taken the line rental pre payment option of £120 per annum.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

To be clear, you will not get the best offer unless you go through with cancellation...0 -
I currently have 60Mb broadband, M phone and XL TV with Tivo plus an additional V+ in the bedroom. I have had a loyalty discount for the past two years, my current monthly bill is just over £54. I've spoken to Retentions who've offered the same package at £61.99 (including the February increase), or pay line rental upfront reducing the monthly bill to £47. I wanted to drop broadband to 30Mb but it only dropped the monthly bill down to £59.49.
If I give notice are they likely to offer anything better? Not sure what to do for the best.
You have exactly the same deal as me. Mine works out at £38/month for 6 months then £43 for remaining 12 months (18 month contract). This doesn't include the £10/month upfront line rental that I have paid but does include the price rise in Feb.
You have to use a bit of charm with them (especially if it's a female). Or if it's a bloke, ask him what team he supports and say you also support them (even if you don't
). Just say you know someone who has the deal you are looking to get and that you feel like a 2nd class citizen that you have not been offered it to. In other words, try every trick in the book but stay courteous and well mannered and do not give in till they do.
Good luck0 -
They've tried to call me every day (more than once per day on 3 different numbers) since I gave notice, unfortunately I haven't been around when they've called. Guess the next chance will be Saturday as I'm back at work on Friday.0
