  • Retentions offered a 36 pound credit payable one-time plus a 20.50 a month for 30Mb BB only on a new 12 month term. So equivalent 17.50 / month over 12 months.

We were aiming to get close enough to the MSE talktalk deal (13 a month for me as I need line install). I offered to go ahead if they could offer 15.

They could not get to 15 a month, so my cancellation is now booked.

Virgin call me back a day later and offered a 66 credit on the above enabling me to meet my 15 a month over a year break point.

This info is offered as a further baseline for others to consider in their own negotiations. Personally I'm not interested in opinions on whether it was a good or bad outcome.

    cheers
  • Hi guys, can anyone let me know if this worth keeping or are there better deals out there? I am happy to switch to sky or BT.

Current deal with £13 loyalty runs out today plus £2.50 rolling credit run out last month so now paying £64.99 for:

    TV XL on Tivo
    2 additional v+ boxes
    30mb bb
    Weekend calls.

Phoned about leaving and was offered the same but at £56. Should I go through with cancellation to get better deal?

    Thanks

    Hello everybody.

I'm on the 60mb BB XL package paying £31.75 a month & been with them for around 15 months.

I received the £2.50 charge increase letter and decided it was time to get a better deal.

Initially customer service offered a reduced rate of £27.50 and £30 a month from october, but I fobbed him off and retentions offered me £22.50 a month and no charge increase on a 12 month contract.

It might be possible to get a better deal but i'm pretty pleased with that.

    Advice here would be appreciated.

    I was paying £92 for:

    TV XL (standard box)
    Sky Sports
    20MB broadband

I have been with virgin for 6 years so, after threatening to cancel and playing the loyalty card, this is the best they could offer me.

    £78.74 for 12 months for:

TV XL (HD Tivo 500GB box)
    Sky Sports
    60MB broadband
Medium phone line,Talk weekends (whatever that means)

They are also offering me an extra virgin box as part of the deal. The issue here is that I have had a problem in the past with the engineer, who refused to install in the attic (is this acceptable?).
Therefore this extra box is useless to me. I tried to gain a futher reduction by leaving out the second box but they said that it comes as part of the deal and that I would still pay the same.

    Is this a worthy deal?

It's worth noting that I'm pretty sure that, since my current deal is heavily outdated, I would have been entitled to free 60MB and HD upgrade anyway.

One final question: The broadband I'm on right now (20MB) is still very fast in my opinion. Would the 'upgrade to 60MB' actually be 3x faster?....I'm sceptical.
  • ^ I think you could get that for around £50 per month - just put in your cancellation notice, and let them make you an offer, or wait for their call.

    Here's what I was paying:

    M TV
    Mela channel pack
    V HD box
    Talk weekends
    20mb BB

    £44.64 a month!
I gave my cancellation notice and told them i was moving to Sky. I actually called Sky to see their options and was immediately offered £50 per month for 10-17mb BB, talk evenings & weekends, and ALL sky channels (including movies & sport) for £50 p/m, 12 month contract!

That was a pretty good deal, but Sky cannot offer any discounts on the asian channels (which I get with Virgin as part of the mela channel package), so it would have added an extra £15-£20 to my monthly bill. Let Sky call up virgin to port my landline number to show I meant business, but gave myself 30 days to cancel & haggle with Virgin. With only less than a week till disconnection, I rang up retentions to see what was on offer.

An hour (!) spent talking to an extremely friendly young lady whose family life was getting her down resulted in my current package costing £30.40 per month (I took line rental saver as part of the deal). A credit of £77-ish was also applied to my account by the lovely young lady who said "you wont have to pay your bill for a few months, mr ashnojutsu":D

Golden rule is never give up, never take what you are offered first time, and always be nice to the person on the other end of the line - you want to them to feel like helping you, not hate you :kisses3:

These are very good rates, MarkeyMark. Do you think that they will let us keep our old box on this deal (don't want the Superhub after previous bad experience)?

I moved home on July 31st and before then I asked to leave. They emailed me a retentions deal and I am now on £13.75 a month for 60mb BB with a SH2. I got £50 credit as I got my old flatmate to take over a new contract in my old flat and he also got the same £13.75 deal as me in that flat.

Pretty sweet deal as didn't need anything else with it.

This offer is being spammed around the forum, it's against forum rules to post for personal gain and if you take advantage of the "offer" the OP gets a nice commission. I doubt his employers would be happy that he is telling existing customers to cancel their services in order to sign up for the "deal".

    I'm currently paying £97 for the following ;

TV XL with 500gb TiVo box
    3 additional TiVo boxes
100meg Broadband (boost to 120meg next month)
    Talk Weekends with Caller Display

I think that's not too bad for the amount I have.
