I have 30 Mb broadband at £23.65/month, I just want to knock off around £5/month but have some questions. I'm also moving soon (no firm date yet though) so want to sort/plan this out before being locked into another contract.

If my math is correct taking into account 6 months half price and the current rate from topcashback of £28.78 it would work out to be £17.15/month for a new customer over an 18 month contract, I'd be extremely happy with this.

    1) I'm guessing as I'm no longer one of the more profitable customers retentions will be less likely to give me a decent offer, if at all?

    2) If I decide to knock back retentions and go ahead with cancelling, is there x amount of days before you're considered a new customer?

    3) I'm also a Virgin Mobile customer(usually £20/month), could this affect any new customer deals? The phone isn't for me and I don't pay the bill but it's in my name (in case anyone was thinking it might be easier to cut off £5 here)

    Thanks

    2) when you cancel your services, you can't take them back within 30 days. After those 30 days, you're a new customer.

Hi. I am currently paying £68.74 for the following:

    60mb Broadband
    XL TV
    M Tel
    Tivo 500mb
    Extra HD box

I phoned last week and said I wanted to cancel to save money, immediately I was told I happened to ring on the right day as they had a deal starting for the same package for £47.99! Told them I'd looked into Sky and they just slated Sky broadband quality. Told them I needed to save as much as poss and considered downgrading to just the broadband (we don't even have the home phone connected) and was told 60mb would be £18.50, said I'd think about it. Just phoned again and said the same thing and all they offered was £5.75 off of £68.74. Told them I'd decided just to go with the broadband for £18.50 and that I would get freeview, they tried to deter my by telling me I would need an aerial for £120! Lucky for me we have freeview in other rooms so already have one. They finally realised I had made up my mind and have downgraded the package with 1 month notice. I expect a phone call to persuade me otherwise but unless they can offer me a huge discount I will stay with just the broadband, have to admit I've not had any problems with it.

It really irks me that they are prepared to give such discounts when we threaten to leave but won't automatically give anything away to loyal customers!!

That IS expensive indeed. I'm paying £39.95 for

    120Mb Broadband
    M TV
    M Tel
    Tivo 500MB

XL TV price is what, in my opinion, is not worth it. It's way too expensive, but I wish I had XL TV for the National Geographic, Animal Planet, History channel stuff....

Hello all. Currently I'm being ripped off for £36.74 pm for XL broadband and M phone (no TV). With call charges the bill is regularly £40+. I'm moving house soon and we want Virgin in the new place and would possibly like to get some kind of TV package with it. Is it better to cancel here and sign up as new customers under my OH's name in the new place, or is it better to negotiate a retention deal?

Try negotiation first. But threaten to cancel or they won't give you much.

I think Sky at the moment are offering free unlimited broadband for 12 month if you pay the phone line rental of £14.50 which includes weekend calls. I have just moved from Virgin to BT as I wanted the BT Sports package and the cost for Infinity is £15 month (40GB) plus line rental which I pay in advance and works out at £11.75 monthly

I have been with Virgin for the past six years, dipping in and out with Sky Sports depending on the season and the games shown.

    I have
    XL TV
M Telephone with paid a year in advance as much cheaper
    Caller Display
    60MB Broadband
    1TB TiVo
    Extra HD Box

My Monthly bill is £50.25 (obviously not including the telephone).

I am going to dip back in the Sky Sports and wonder if I should try to negotiate the subscription or am I getting an extra good deal, or not!

Just to update anyone who's interested: I called up and said I wanted to cancel because I was moving and we were going to try BT Infinity in the new place. I was immediately put through to the home moving team and they offered to keep me on the same package (60 Mb broadband and M phone) for £26.49 pm on condition of a new 12 month contract.

I was fairly happy with that, and we had already decided not to take TV because we realised you don't get any decent channels unless you take the XL package. All in all quite pleased.
