18 months into a 24 month contract for BB only. This latest rise means over 23% increase for me so far this year.
I know I can refuse the rise & cancel the contract but do retentions usually offer a new deal in these circumstances?
It normally takes 30 days to cancel so if during that time your not offered a better deal and you want to stay then just cancel the cancel. Mind ! bet your offered a better deal !0 -
Received the letter today for the £2.50 increase, £26.15 is simply too much for my budget so went ahead and cancelled, will of course post update.
Foreign call centre was trying to say I'd have to pay a cancellation fee, had T&C in front of me lol, anyway got transferred to a Scot and they offered £20.50/month for two years, moving soon though so they credited the difference for a month (I'll be out of contract after then anyway) and said to call back to get a price I'm happy with.
If they can't offer less than £20 I'll just leave and come back later to grab a new customer deal bringing it under that anyway.Member of Scotwest Credit Union0 -
Hey guys,
If you could advice me if there are any better deals at the moment please with Virgin media?
I get phone with unlimited minutes day and night and 20mb internet for £37 (£14.99 line rental, £8 unlimited use of phone and about £15 internet)
Thanks guys
m
Does that internet fee include a loyalty discount? You're on pretty much the same package as me (I get free mediumTV with this too, which I'm assuming you also get because of the package you're on). I pay £39.93 BUT I have paper billing at £1.79 and Talk International at £2.25. My BB price is £28.65 but I get a loyalty discount of £15.71. I hope that helps! I think that the price you're paying is about right.0 -
Afternoon all,
I am currently paying out £106.74 for everything from VM. I get Talk Unlimited, Movies & Sports (HD), XL Tv package, XXL Broadband, additional V Box, TIVO etc
They give me a minute £10 month loyalty discount within that.
I rang up today to see what they could do, saying sky were offering £100 voucher and 6 months at 50% and free broadband and a galaxy tablet, I even told her that VM were advertising £100 voucher to new customers and 6months at half price.......
she offered me another £10 off a month. I said I would think about it, but am I being greedy here thinking I could get more off? I explained about the Sky offers but she simply said as an existing customer I am not entitled to it!0 -
Just phoned up and asked what deals they could do for me as my contract is up. Best they said they could do was:-
M+ TV with Tivi Box
Second Tivo box in another room
30mb Broadband
Evening and Weekend Calls
£48 per month. I've had an extension built and it all needs reinstalling and they said they'd do that for free.
Do you think I can get this lower? Was hoping not to pay more than £40.0 -
Retentions offered a 36 pound credit payable one-time plus a 20.50 a month for 30Mb BB only on a new 12 month term. So equivalent 17.50 / month over 12 months.
We were aiming to get close enough to the MSE talktalk deal (13 a month for me as I need line install). I offered to go ahead if they could offer 15.
They could not get to 15 a month, so my cancellation is now booked.0 -

You'll regret it - Virgin's fiber product is 4000% better than anything talktalk can even do for you...0 -
As the title says. 120Mb internet only, no line rental, no phone, no TV.
I have been with VM for 2.5 years, with the first 6 months with terrible service. Since then however, the service has been rock solid.
However, the planned £2.50 rise from £39.25 to £41.75 prompted me into action. I did my homework and worked out Plusnet FTTC at a shade under £29 averaged out per month.
I put a call into VM retentions and explained my thoughts. They offered me the existing service for £28.50 and that included the planned £2.50 increase. This ties in with a previous post on this thread who got their 120Mb down to £26 a little while ago.
The £28.50 is a discounted rate for 2 years but the contract is only for 1 year. So I am tied to this for 1 year, thereafter I can change/leave if I wanted to. After 2 years the amount will revert to whatever the £41.75 rate will be at that time. But then, I just hunt round for a good deal again.0 -
60Mbps BB only for which I'm paying £26.75. The £2.50 increase will be a 17% hike from the £25 I was paying in January so I called on 0333 000 3101 (from saynoto0870) there was no "thinking of leaving" option and lots of number pressing until I reached CS who couldn't offer anything so I asked to be transferred to retentions. Result is £22.50 from next bill and including the increase. 2 year discount 1 year new minimum term.

Somebody on cableforum got this same deal together with a Superhub2 thrown in... Something to remember if you need better WiFi than the SH1 does (I'm not fussed as I have my SH1 in modem mode and use my own router).0 -

That included a superhub with free installation. I find a good tip is to say you really want to stay but you just need them to offer you something else, and can they not go speak to their manager to see if he can do anything?0
