I rang Virgin on Saturday to say that BT Infinity was now available in my area and I was intending to switch as it worked out cheaper. I've got 60Mb Broadband with Anytime Calls and Caller Display which was costing me £46.99 per month. They offered a 12 month deal at £29.49 per month, so I decided to stay with them. Very happy!*

*Although based on a previous experience with them, I'm holding onto my enthusiasm until the contract comes through, just in case there's something they forgot to mention...

We're coming to the end of our contract and I thought I'd call retentions and threaten to cancel - they offered me nothing except upgrading to XL TV for another £11 a month.

    We get:

    TV L
    Fibre Broadband 30MB
Phone M (which we NEVER use except for incoming calls)

All for just over £40 a month (£42.50 I think).

Does anyone have anything else I can try in order to get a better deal?

I'd actually go through with cancelling in the hope of getting a call back with a great deal, but I'm actually a little scared they wouldn't!

  • I have 120Mb broadband and XL phone and was paying £52.54 per month.

VM agreed to reduce to £37.99 a month and then I did the £120 upfront for line rental for year and now my monthly bill is £23.

Ended up increasing my broadband to XL (60MB) and keeping everything else the same as I was honest enough (with myself) to admit we don't watch a lot of TV!

Would have been £50.50, but I took the linesaver deal at £120 up front and monthly cost now £35.50. Works out, if I add the £10 line rental back on the monthly cost, that I'm essentially paying £3 more a month for double the net speed.

As a big downloader, that'll help.

Not terrible, but I expected much better from them.
  • I am looking at swapping to BT for my broadband. Infinity 2 looks good and VM can only match the price at best for what appears to be an inferior service. BT is offering the sports channel and lots of wi-fi hotpots. It will be interesting to see what VM offer if I tell them I am definitely leaving.

contract is now up for grabs, as a misery guts i like to play the least possible.

the renewal they offered was 30MB download broadband, medium tv package and anytime free calls phone packagwe for £30/mth plus £50 connection fee. the deal seemed OK but did not fancy the connection fee - anyone have any success negotiating this out?

    Hi Folks

I've been with virgin media for quite a while and last week I rang to ask if I can exchange my old virgin box for a new Tivo box. The person at the end of the line says it would cost £100.

I was quite surprised and even suggested that I may leave them if he still insists on charging the £100. He wasn't very concerned that I left them and was quite adamant that I would get charged the £100.

Any suggestions how I can round this problem?

    Thanks

Call again, you may get through to someone more helpful.
  • I rang VM because my existing discount expires at the end of the month.

The best they could offer me is:
    BB 60mg
    XL TV
    Free weekend calls
    Tivo box in main room
    HD+ box in bedroom
for £57.99 pm + free install

Does that sound ok? I did push for more off but he wouldnt budge at all, said that was the best he could do.
I can save more by paying 12 months line rental in advance.

This was my 3rd offer. First was for £59.99pm for the same services and they wanted £15 install charge.

2nd offer was £48.99pm but that was dropping the TV down to M+ and we need XL :o
