Let me know how you get on with haggling as I need to get this sorted too.
OK, I'm now paying £39/month (was £56.24/month) with the following changes:
New 12 month contract (my old one had just come to an end)
TV: As before
BROADBAND: Now 30Mb rather than 60Mb (saving £5/month)
PHONE: As before, but paid the line rental upfront for a year (saving £5/month over 12 months)
This is apparently their 'essentials' package, but they also threw in free caller display for me too and a £5-ish a month discount for up to 2 years. I was happy because this compares well with BT's 38Mb fibre broadband + YouView package (about £37/month), but has more TV channels.
It might not work for everybody, but I was offered a 'Multi talk triple' deal which seems to be something only the retentions team (called 'customer relations' by VM) can offer. For me, this was 30Mb broadband, keeping the 500GB TiVo box, and XL anytime landline calls plus 150 minutes/month to mobiles and 0845 numbers. This for £30/month! Terrific deal but the main snag was that they'd have reduced my TV package to what was basically Freeview (losing Sky One, GOLD etc). My wife wasn't happy with that, so I went for the 'essentials' + discounts deal, which I'm well happy with.
Good luck! Let me know how you get on.0 -
Thanks rhys.
Just found out last night that in my area they have a problem with the line resulting in v. slow internet that is estimated to be fixed in December so I am seriously thinking of leaving them.
Will let you know how I get on after I speak to them in a few days after seeing what other companies can offer me.0 -
Iv'e posted about this before,Got this deal a few weeks back.
m-tv
30mb bb
xxl phone 150 minutes abroad free to virgin mobiles free 0870 0845no's caller id free calls 24/7
after paying the line rental upfront £120 that leaves £15 a month.0 -
Spoke to VM this morning about leaving due to poor value for money and was offered the following deal...
Monthly I was previously paying:
BB M & PHONE M (Free Wknd & Eve)
Line Rental Per Annum: £143.30 (£14.99pm)
Up To 20Mb BB: £11.69 (£140.28 PA)
Average Monthly Call Costs: £50.00 PM (I use an override provider, but wife won't!)
ANNUAL TOTAL: £883.58
New Deal (12 month contract)
BB L & PHONE XL (UK Landlines & Virgin Mobiles Free 24/7)
Line Rental Per Annum: £120 (in advance)
Up To 60Mb BB: £14.50 (£174.00 PA)
ANNUAL TOTAL: £294.00
Having seen recent updates to this thread, I'm not so sure this is a great deal, even though it will cut present costs by more than 50%.
I'm only interested in fibre BB and phone services (no TV package).
Any good? What do you think?0 -
How have people been seeing someone in the store?
I don't mind seeing someone face to face but if they are getting better deals on the telephone then it'd be better phoning them.0 -
Well after they have changed all cables from main box round cnr from us all way to house, all cables in house, the box and the card we now have had a few days with no stuttering or hanging.. But even more concerning is the difference in picture quality.. Its amazing now..
But, having spoken to virgin they say they glad its sorted but wont be re imbursing us anything or adjusting package price. This has been going on for about 2 yrs!!
Ive finally had a response.wel 2 in fact!!
1st call.. They offered me 2 mths free at 75quid to compensate..
2nd call totally admitting they were at fault etc but only offering me a discounted package to stay.. After looking more closely i dont reck it that gud a deall.. Any advice guys?
At mo we have xl tv , no phone, 20 mb bb and 3 boxes..71 quid
They offerin tivo, 1 hd+ box and 1 hd box, xl package with movies and sport, phone but only unlimited weekend. And 60mb bb for 85 quid. She said thats 500 discounted so thats my compensation but then said its 27 quid a month reduction for 12 mths.. Thats dont equate to 500!! And to be fair the last yr we had 22quid discount on every mth bill..
Should i be taking this further guys? Please advise..0 -

Got more or less same deal though they said xxl phone,Did you have caller id free 0870 numbers and 150 minutes to other countrys.I paid the years line rental making mine £15 a month or with line rental paid £25 a month.
same thing offered here : you can pay £120 upfront line rental using a credit card that will bring the cost down to £25 per month over a period of 12 months.
Very very good deal I would say considering you get a lot of premium in everything; i.e talk unlimited + 150 minutes of mobile or international minutes + pause/record/rewind HD TV.0 -

Not bad, but not great.
I have 30 MB BB, evening and weekend calls, caller ID and 150 minutes to 0845/0870, but no TV (all TV M seems to be is Freeview plus Sky1, Sky Arts, and Gold).
Paying the line rental up front, it works out less than £15 per month.0
