This does sound like a good deal - out of curiosity, what package/equipment did you have on the previous contract? I'm assuming you had the TV previously, and had decided to get rid?

I was paying roughly £50 for 20mb broadband, M+ TV, XL phone package and line rental. However, as I had barely used the TV (and it was an old box) and was regularly creeping over the XL phone limits making calls to 0844/5 and mobiles, not to mention being on what the virgin engineer described as "ancient" internet equipment, I decided to make changes.
As you can see, even if I fail with my complaint I have massively improved my package whilst reducing my bill and I would like to pay tribute to the members of the forum for inspiring me to get it sorted!

    I have virgin media modem I think it's an ambit 256 and then a d-link 615 router.

So modem only mode on the shub and plug the 615 in didn't work?

Something really screwy about that...it should work out of the box.

Nope tried two different superhubs and the wifi wouldn't work properly more than 5ft away from the hub.

Was a pain too get the old equipment back as well! Wished the superhub had worked.

yeah but in modem only mode its your 615 that would be doing the wifi!

I have the shub, but I bought a proper router to do my wifi part, TP link 1043.

Haven't had an issue since, and the range on the 1043 is perfect.

It's not yours to sell. Keep hold of it, your's will likely break.

If you sell it, they are entitled to invoice you for its non return.

Virginmedia very rarely ask for their equipment back! I intend on seeing my contract out so im definitely sure that they will not be wanting it back in 12 months as it will be outdated by then and no use to them. :money:

Oh and my superhub is only a month old so im sure it will be ok, if not then they will just send me another one out when i call them to tell them that it has broke. It really is that simple.

Yep it is really that simple.

They can charge you for equipment not returned.

Hi, I had been paying £37 a month for 20mb BB, tv M, (though I had been just using a freeview box) and XL phone from Virgin. I was unhappy about this deal, I followed the advice on this thread and others, for which, a very big thank you:).

I phoned and got through to disconnections, and was offered a one year contract, line rental year in advance, £120, free upgrade to 30mb BB, free installation of the smaller Tivo box and I think the same M Tv package for £20 a month. I am not good on the phone so am a bit vague about the Tv:embarasseI am very happy with this, so far:)

Thanks for reading and all the advice. I would be grateful for peoples thoughts on this deal. Thank you.

hardly use land line love the tivo and broadband out of contract paying £54 ish a month before increase.
can i ditch the landline though i wil lose loyalty discount of £11
    or get a better package?.

ditching the landline will affect other discounts, it will also mean VM charge you more for the other services that you have.

You're going to be best aligning what you have to the nearest collection VM offer and working on a smallish discount from there.

phoned retentions wouldnt budge said already on goodeal .they then said as a good will gesture offer me £50 discount on next months bill on taking a new 12 month contract. i said i will compare it to sky and get back intouch as they put it on my notes any good or not ?.

Hey guys, I have been with VM for over 13 years, back when it was NTL. Even my email address ends in ntlworld.com

Anyway, I have only ever had internet with them but recently I decided I wanted a landline phone as I am getting alot of grief by not having one... being able to sort out everyday stuff etc.

So I have emailed them 3 times now to sort this out, as I dont have a phone.

The first reply which took them 3 weeks to send was that they could sort out a phone M package for an extra £14.99 plus £49.99 installation.

I replied and said they are taking the P*** and wished to leave for a company which would show some customer loyalty....... They replied and said that they could forget the £14.99 charge, so I would get broadband and phone for £23.50 per month. or it was £22.50.. lol anyway, I am happy with that indeed..

Now here is my problem and I dont know if I am being cheeky...... After 13 years of paying my bills on time, everytime I want free installation. I have asked for this and the last email from them outright said no, no free installation.

From reading about other ISP's I am fairly weary of cancelling my VM but I can get the deal I want (around that price) with free installation elsewhere.

This is doing my head in... Am I asking too much?
  • For those looking for a basic package I currently pay £24.40 (including line rental) for:

    M Phone
M TV including TIVO service (Freeview channels)
    30 m/b Broadband
