Hi everyone, please be gentle as this is my first post on the forum...
I'm hoping some kind person might be able to advise on the situation below please.
We have finished our contracted 12 month term with VM and are currently paying £40.90/month for M phone, M+ tv and 60mb broadband. I'm keen to reduce this figure - we hardly use the TV, phone or internet so it seems stupid to be paying this much for them. We can't sign into a new contract as we are moving in six months but don't know where to so no idea of coverage etc. and don't want to get stuck with cancellation fees.
I rang VM today to reduce package as I understood that this wouldn't need a new contract. The CS guy said that unless we got into another 12 month contract he could only do same phone and TV, with reduced 30mb broadband for £30/month. I asked for a price without TV and he said that it is the same as with. I asked for even less mb broadband, but he said that any less would be more expensive as they want people to have 30mb.
After this I said that I could get internet and phone with line rental for £20 - £25 elsewhere (mentioned sky, plusnet etc.) but he wouldn't budge and said again that that was the best he could do without a new contract.
Please could anyone tell me if you think CS were telling the truth and that is the best I will get without a new contract? Also, whether anyone has got just phone and broadband without TV, and whether it is cheaper than the amount I've been quoted?
Thanks very much!0 -
I just queried the £1.15/month increase on my broadband package that I only started Nov 2012. They said they had sent a letter out 2 months ago. Of course, I haven't had that. When I complained he said they would apply a £10.35 credit to my next bill for 9 months (remaining on my contract) x £ 1.15= £10.35 Only a small amount but I still won and will be renegotiating my price/contract in Nov.
Wonder how the take over of Virgin media will change things ?0 -
Finally got round to calling VM about our package, we did have 20mb broadband, m+ TV and M phone and we were paying £37.?? (£40.64 after the price rise). I told them we were thinking of leaving and I was put through to "customer relations", the lady I spoke to there offered us the same as we are on at the minute for £34 a month or 30mb broadband, m+ TV with TiVo and M phone for £37 (+£50 installation).
She wouldn't budge on the installation charge but as we've just bought an HD TV we needed either an HD box or TiVo to get the HD channels, so we were going to have to pay it one way or the other.
That's on a 12 month contract but the price is fixed for 2 years and they are coming to install TiVo on Friday! :-) I didn't think we'd get anything off really as we don't have as expensive packages as some people on here so I'm happy with that!0 -

Existing customers should never pay installation charges. If they wont drop the charges ask for disconnection - the outbound team will do your installations for free to keep you.0 -
Hi all - I really need some advice, I think I've got information overload from looking at the different deals!
I'm currently with VM and have Broadband L and tv M for £17.95 and phone line rental for £14.99. I also have talk eve & w/e for free (not too sure how that happened) So, a grand total of £32.64 (not including phone calls outside of the eve & w/e that the errant OH makes ) I have a bog standard modem and bog standard digi box. I've been with VM for over 10 years (and have only re-negotiated once around 4 years ago
).
I don't have a "standard" (wired) phone line, so it looks like most other deals are out for me, as they all seem to require a standard phone line (??)
The main TV has freeview installed (although I don't seem to be able to get ITV on it at the mo!) so I could potentially lose the tv package - but I'm not sure if I would benefit financially iyswim. Plus, I also quite like the catch-up facility. Although I have a mobile (payg) I also quite like having the phone - mainly for others to contact me without paying a fortune!
So, any opinions? Is my current deal OK? Can I get better? As I understand it, a new customer with VM would get a tivo box and superhub as standard. I find this quite annoying - shouldn't loyal (?!) customers be rewarded for their loyalty? Oh and atyeo9, what's this about a £4.00 loyalty discount? First I've heard of it! (unless I already get it and they've just not told me!)
Please help - I'm completely bamboozed (it may be my age)

You should be able to negotiate a tivo box and upgrade to Superhub with 30 Mb
broadband with no price increase if you're willing to sign a new contract with Virgin Media.
Their competitors, will usually install a 'wired' conventional phone line free of charge if you agree to move to them.
There is currently a 50% off Sky and broadband promotion available on this website.0 -
I rung Virgin Media the other day to try get a tv package added.
My package was
30MB BB
M Phone
No tv
Cost £28 a month
I spoke to a few people, and got this offer, 30M BB, M Phone, XL Tv with a Tivo box free installation. The first person said best they can do was £73.99 a month, I thought that was way to high.
Anyway, after speaking to a few more advisors, I managed to get the above down to £49 a month, was £54 but they give me 6 months with a £5 disount.
This was without going to retentions. Is that a good price? Or should I go to to retentions and haggle some more?0 -

No far too much i was offered xl tv xl phone 60mb bb tivo box and put my box in another room for £49 a month i turned that down i'm out of contract next month then i'll see what they offer me.Always best to wait for retentions to ring.0 -
I'm going to have to call tomorrow, just looked at my bill, and there's a £5 rise with the price increase - although I knew about this from forums etc, I've had absolutely nothing from VM to say there was a rise in the prices, so not given me a chance to cancel, and I've also found my loyalty discount has disappeared too! Not a happy bunny!0
