I rang up Virgin saying I could get a better deal with plusnet at £18 per month instead of £35 per month they are asking me to go on (change in price due to house move), and he said sorry he couldn't lower the price. Bit gutted because I'll have to pay over £40 for cancellation!

£40 is cheap, a house move = new 12 month contract with Virgin...

    Hi everyone

I spent half of last night trying to wade through this thread and ended up hopelessly confused. I'm with virgin media and currently have:

Talk unlimited (never used frankly, we Skype these days)
    XL TV
    M BB
    Loyalty pack TV/BB/phone
At races (no idea what this is)

We do not have a V+ box and I'm pretty sure the router is ancient. Cable box is about 5 yrs old

We are paying £36.90 for the bundle with an additional £13.90 for the phone. So basic package is £50.40 and will go up a bit in Feb

We use the BB a lot (heavy games playing and downloading at times) but the M package seems to work ok. DH wants to hold onto XL TV even though we hardly watch it :o

I'm also struggling to make sense of info from comparators since its really hard to work out what's included. But I think currently talk talk are offering

    £14.95 line rental
    £15.50 TV
£3.25 BB ?? Wasn't sure of this at all
    Total of £33.70
    Installation fee £50

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed? Or indeed even whether we are paying over the odds? I don't know if a V+ box would even be any use to us since we tend to use watch again rather than prerecord and I don't think we'd bother with that feature. Though the watch again function is v slow and clunky!

Ps gonna have another try with DH about the XL TV :)

ok firstly, if the BB is what you use most, and it works for you then do not leave.

VM's fiber product is the best part of their service. If you don't use the home phone then there s a good saving there (we have it, and we reduced it to nothing feature wise, due to call costs its probably going to be unplugged as soon as our mobile contracts include the 08's)

I would recommend calling virgin, getting a Tivo box as part of your bundle and potentially reducing your phone down, you may even get a better BB speed too.

There's a reason why TT look cheap, they are, and you very much get what you pay for.

    Hi Folkd

I rang Virgin up today to try & reduce my costs. At present I pay the following-

    Large TV package £16
    Sky Sports £25.75
    Broadband £20.95
    Line Rental £13.90
    Talk Unlimited £8
    0845 numbers - £2
    Loyalty Discount £9.50

The advisor said I am already on the best deal taking into account the things I require. Do you think that is correct?
Regarding the tv package, I would only want the sky sports & cartoon channels and the advisor said he cannot reduce the costs any further. Shall I threaten to change providers & see if they can be more 'helpful'?

    Thanks

There aren't many saving in there from first glance, but you don't say what BB speed you are on nor what TV boxes you may have.

You get to the point with VM where the service cant give anymore discount, but the equipment can be a benefit instead...

ditching the landline will affect other discounts, it will also mean VM charge you more for the other services that you have.

You're going to be best aligning what you have to the nearest collection VM offer and working on a smallish discount from there.
  • hi guys, my first ever post on MSE, i have worked on retensions for a telecomunications company for just over 12 months now so i know more or less everything about how the systems operate, not so much the computers but the behaviors, what exactly to say and how to haggle for the best price, any questions?
