I'm about to start the ball rolling with Virgin Media retentions, it's an annual ball ache that we have to go through but truth be told the standard of BB speed is excellent.
We presently have telephone and broadband only but it's suggested elsewhere that they may well add TV for free (but not premium channels), I am also going to try for a slight monthly reduction as they have jacked me up by at least a £5 recently.Sealed pot challange no: 3390 -
You should be able to negotiate a tivo box and upgrade to Superhub with 30 Mb
broadband with no price increase if you're willing to sign a new contract with Virgin Media.
Their competitors, will usually install a 'wired' conventional phone line free of charge if you agree to move to them.
There is currently a 50% off Sky and broadband promotion available on this website.
Thanks choppsWell, I've just spoken to them - they're not playing! They can't (won't?!) send me a tivo, unless I change my package, and pay an extra £5 a month. Ditto with the superhub - apparently because I've "only" got up to 20Mb b/b, so I don't "need" it - I'd have to upgrade to 30 Mb which would "need" a superhub - and that's another £5 ish a month. They can do the upfront line rental thing, which wouldn't apparently jeopardise my existing "deal", and would save me approx £5 per month :wall:
Anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to pay more than I already do (less would be better of course) but I want better services if that makes sense
Oh, forgot to add that the "loyalty bonus" is only applicable if you threaten to leave and then deal with retentions - I haven't got that far....yet0 -
Renewed my contract today and got L BB (30mb) & M Phone for £22.14.
Paid my line rental in advance so effectively paying £17.15 a month. Well happy with that! This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0 -

I'm liking the sound of this! So, how did you get this deal? Did you go through retentions? Please, spill the beans (a tape recording of your conversation with them would be helpful too)

well I was out of contract so I called and asked for a price for best broadband and phone packages, scrap the tv.
Got offered 100mb bb and XXL phone for £49.99,
60mb bb, M TV and multi talk 1000 phone for £49.99
or 30 mb bb plus multitalk 150 phone for £28.40
(all include phone line rental)
I accepted the £28.40 deal because I have no interest in the TV service (now I have decent hd freeview recording equipment).
They called back a couple of days later and tried to get me to take the TV back, I explained I was not interested unless they could put me on multitalk 1000 phone, which they agreed to if I took a new 500gb tivo box on 'M' channels package for an extra 51p (during the promotional period), rising to £33.91 after.
however this morning the paperwork has come through with the phone still on multitalk 150 and as I had clearly pointed out I had no interest in the TV unless accompanied by multitalk 1000, I am yet to sign a contract, have given the customer services grief this morning and filed a complaint instructing them to check out their phone conversation.
I will let you what happens! :mad:0 -

This does sound like a good deal - out of curiosity, what package/equipment did you have on the previous contract? I'm assuming you had the TV previously, and had decided to get rid?gavvallance wrote: »however this morning the paperwork has come through with the phone still on multitalk 150 and as I had clearly pointed out I had no interest in the TV unless accompanied by multitalk 1000, I am yet to sign a contract, have given the customer services grief this morning and filed a complaint instructing them to check out their phone conversation.

Ah, so it's not gone smoothly - sorry to hear thatBut useful for others (me!) to know to take a name and keep notes of the conversation! Difficult for me, as I have trouble hearing customer services due to background noise at their end. I'll just have to ask them to shout up - but there's only so many times you can say "sorry, I didn't quite hear that"
Good luck, and yes please, do let us know how you get on *fingers crossed*:)0 -
Was paying £19.65 for 10Meg Broadband (after latest rise) £18 before the rise. called them the other day and got 60Meg broadband for £20 a month (12month contract) on the first call and doubt i will get any cheaper than that from retentions so accepted it there an then.
p.s she was trying to give it to me for £22.50 a month for ages! but i said to her to knock it down to £20 and i will take it, she eventually obliged! shes also sending me a new superhub out but ive already got one so will sell it on ebay for £20.0
