Virgin Media Retention thread

I had a contract for £54.50 per month for XL BB & XL TV. It expires tomorrow so I phoned the retention line and secured a package for both at £42 per month. I asked for email conformation of this, it is not yet forthcoming. Is the telephonic agreement enough or should I try pursue this for email confirmation?0

Got the email confirmation. Sorted.0

The haggling advice usually works amazingly well, so many suppliers are trying to keep their customer base number up right now you can usually get a better deal from your own supplier if you threaten to leave then anything else other suppliers might be able to offer new customers!
my virgin contract's up soon too so I'll give them a ring to see what they can do. I notice all of their offers are for new customers only but hopefully they'll be able to give me a good deal.0 -
As i have a few queries and questions, not complaining honest0

Hi, firstly - great thread! I called VM last week to see what they could offer to help my money saving endeavours. I currently pay £49.50 for M TV, XL BB, Telephone line rental and call reject. They offerred £8 off that. I've been with them since 2001.
So now, instead of trying to negotiate a reduction, I have decided to jump ship and I noticed that at present BT are offering connection of a new line for £29.35 for Cable customers... it's usually £122.33 (where do they get their pricing???). So one of the major stumbling blocks for moving away from cable has been significantly reduced.
I think I might go to BT for their basic line plan for the £29.35 connection plus £10.50/m rental and then sign up with O2 for BB, as I have an O2 mobile contract and they are offering free connection until the end of the year. I reckon this will save something like £25 a month, or about £300 a year... I can live with some BB overlap in January if necessary.
One of the things that has struck me whilst reading through the thread is the wide range of differing charges for similar services. This makes me feel very uncomfortable about VM's practices TBH.0
