Virgin Media Retention thread

has anyone got any experience of the discounts offered when you go through retentions not actually appearing on the bill?
I called on the 7th November and went through the threatening to leave routine and got a reduction from
Line rental £11 + Talk weekends £0 + Fully itemised billing £1 + Broadband size L £25 + TV size M £0
total £37 per month
after haggling a lot with a bloke who tried very hard to mislead me (told me the VM sweet 16 deal was for BB size M only not BB size L as stated on their own website, told me Tiscali would charge £150 installation, despite Tiscali telling me 5 mins earlier it would be £99, etc) anyway, he told me I'd get...
Line Rental + TV M + Phone calls free weekends and weekdays, BB size L for £27.45 per month.
Well the bill appeared today and it says...
Line rental £11
Talk weekends £0 - note the lack of weekday calls
Broadband size L £25
TV size M £0
Phone and BB bundle saving -£8
so total charge £28, 55p more than I was expecting, but no evening calls and more importantly no fully itemised billing. He's taken this away without asking which is an issue as I have work calls on the bill and now can't claim them back as they're not itemsied, so has cost me approx another £5 for this month alone
I'm cross!
Broadband size L £25
TV size M £00 -
Hi,
Does anyone know what the lowest price i can expect for phone line plus basic broadband. Currently on just basic phone line + plus basic channels with virgin. What would the total cost be - i.e. do i need to buy any equipment or pay any installment charges etc for the broadband? Thanks,0 -
Hi guys
I am moving to a house that has virgin digital tv and phone line. I phoned up to get broadband and I have been told that it will be an extra £8.50 a month which seems reasonable, but I was hoping to get it a little cheaper as it is advertised as £4.50 a month to new subscribers.
I called virgin and was basically told that in order to get this offer, I would have to CANCEL my digital tv with them as it was only for customers who had a phone line and broadband only!!
I don't want to cancel my tv. Does anyone have any other suggestions about what I could say to try to get a bit of a discount? I called retentions threatening to cancel my digital tv because I wanted broadband instead and the only thing I was offered was their free tv where I would lose most channels.
Any help appreciated

hello everyone,
My contract is about to finish and I have called VM a few times now. The first time I called, i wasnt even looking for an offer, i was making a bill enquiry and she just pulled this offer out of nowhere... I have NEVER spoken to retentions. I went to the thinking of upgrading your services and again they offered me the deal, £21.50 for 10MB broadband and phone size M, with no contract, as a permanent deal. ive never spoken to retentions, tried getting through to them yday but they were closed.
In the end, I accepted the offer today, but it all seems a bit fishy... from reading this thread, it seems like usually you can only get good offers from retentions, and also everyone seems to be getting tied into contracts. Has anyone else had an experience like this, and are there any catches?0 -
Hi
I have been with Virgin for over a year and - a bit of changing round later - I have:
- basic broadband
- free 24/7 phonecalls
Thats it - I dont have the freeview box (I sent it back - as I just dont watch tv) and I dont have their Internet security.
My bills are on e-billing.
I am paying about £27 per month for this - a friend of mine in the same area tells me they pay about £20 per month. Whilst I was just phoning Virgin anyway to sort out one of their (frequent) messes - I said "Do I have to go through a palaver to get my bill reduced to my friends level - or will you just do it now" to the supervisor I spoke to. She said theres no deals on and my price stays the same.
So - its "palaver time" (darn it!). Now what do I do? Anyone got a handy step-by-step guide for me purlease:D , ie:
- phone such and such free number
- ask to speak to supervisor
- say the price should be.....errrr....and what should it be I quote please?
- etc
Thanks very much in advance.
EDIT: just figured out that my phone equates to XL (ie 24/7 calls) and my broadband equates to M (ie 2 mb). 'Twould help if I could even get a better service (ie faster broadband speed) for that same money. But - basically I'm okay with the broadband speed I have now - but want to pay less for it.0 -

Turned out they had made a mistake (I think...) I was told it would stay at £22.50 permanently and I could then use ebilling to reduce it by £1, but then I called again and they said it was £22.50 until next month, when the price would rise by £5.50. She put me through to retentions and they gave me the L broadband with M phone for £23.50, and with ebilling thats £22.50/month. I've also been put on a 12 month contract.
Is this a good deal or have others done better?0 -
After 6 months of complaining to VM about the dial up speeds on the XL BB, I was promised a much lower bill earlier this year, to compensate me for the cr*p service I was recieving.
It must of cost me (and them) a fortune ringing premium rate numbers (which they did refund!) and now I recieve about 15-20 MB BB for £7.50 a month!
Deal or what?!
Its good to talk..... (Moan....)
Wonder how long this will last?
(The kids down the road who were constantly file sharing moved out a few months ago and the speed picked up considerably.)0 -
Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can help?
I have BB L, and TV L and pay £33.00 a month......my OH desperately wants a V+ box but was told by virgin we'd have to pay £150 to have it installed  and since we're on TV L we'd have to pay extra every month unless we switched to XL...I was just wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper way to get V+ box and service...would I be better off going to TV XL and paying the £150? How much would this work out a month, does anyone know? Or would I be better off going with Sky HD?
Any ideas would be grand, it confuses me totally

I'm currently with Virgin and my contract is expiring soon. My question is: are there other providers that offer broadband without the need for a phone line or is Virgin the only one?0

47 people read my post and no one is able to make a suggestion. Interesting0
