I'm paying £54.90p for xl TV, l B/B and xl phone. No Tivo, HD or any other fancy bits and bobs they've introduced since I joined them in 1999.

I've just phoned to cancel my account and oh dear, the young man was very officious and made me feel quite inadequate. I'm sure they're not all as argumentative! So now I wait to see if I get a call from retentions before 8th December, a bit nervous as I've not done anything like this before (I'm blaming all you lovely people on MSE for encouraging me to try to save money where possible :p) but will hold out til 6th to see what happens, then call them to cancel my notice, and possibly have to accept the £5 reduction the young man offered.
    Holding my breath....

Stick by your guns...they are quite abrupt when you don't take the measly offers...

Virgin phoned today, offered £6 off (no thanks), £7 off, (no thanks) tivo (no thanks!), a free month - fed up now and asked for a sensible reduction otherwise I would be accepting the offer I've been made by another company. After much to'ing and fro'ing I agreed to a free month, superhub and reduction of £11 a month for 12 months for bb and television, 18 months for phone, and a note made on my account that if I phone them just before the year is up they will sort out another deal for me.

It will do for now but they should phone us if they want to keep customers. Or more likely they're just hoping we'll forget, and plod on for the next 13 years before asking again for a reasonably priced package.

Paying £48 a month for XL TV, 20MB Broadband and M Phone (don't need the phone but had to get it last time I did this to get a good discount). Used to only pay about £33 but loyalty discounts ended.

Got the letter through about price going up so rang to cancel today, was offered same as above but put my TV down to M and pay £37 a month. Said no to this obviously so waiting on retentions.

Hi PurplePow, yes I would hold out for more. We dropped down from XL TV to M+, with 20mb BB and M phone, added TiVo for £32.90. This was from retentions. Not had a letter about price increases yet though, lets hope it never arrives.
  • Never before did i realize just how bad a deal i am getting from VM.

    TV:L with Tivo
    BB: XL (30)
    P : Unlimited weekends (cheap)

The base package comes to £51.40 + Phone Calls it averages between £57-60 per month, with the price hike that's £60-65!

Further to the above I received an email this morning saying my services will be increased by £3.74p from Feb. Phoned the number on my letter to cancel new contract and immediately had the increase waived, so the above price of £43.90p is fixed until next November.

Also mentioned that since changing to faster bb the service is actually slower, taking 4/5 secs to open every page. Was put through to a tech and it was sorted out immediately. Keeping on at them does seem to work.

That is an amazing deal! I tried getting that with Sky but to no avail. How did you manage to get that? What did you say?

Just used the cost of moving to Talk Talk as a comparison since it would be roughly the same, didn't seem to be too much hassle for them to offer me that.

I am going to ring up re the TV next week and see if they will offer me a deal.
