But is that including the effective monthly cost of line rental? As in is it £17.10 per month + your line rental in advance or is that £17.10 the effective monthly line rental?

I just spoke to CS and they offered me £1.50/month off my bill for BB and Phone. That has to be literally the worst retention offer I have ever heard of.

The £17.10 is my effective total monthly combined package price for broadband + line rental, after deducting the effective £3.90 monthly saving on line rental for paying upfront.

If I had not paid my line rental in advance, I would have been paying £21 now for the same package.
  • That's a cracking price, I'd take that if I get offered but wouldn't accept much more than that one.

So, anyone got any good offers via a call back from VM's retention (after disconnection request)?

I was on a deal for 10mb broadband only, paying £12.50/month (£10/month discount). The discount expired so I worked out how much it would cost for Sky Unlimited and with offers and cashback etc. I worked it out at £14/month. I called VM to match it and they said no and passed me to disconnections. They offered me a £5/month discount to £17.50/month - I said no, please cancel it.

2 days later they called me and after going around the houses the best I could get was the £5/month discount plus 2 months free. Not a bad deal I think, considering I don't want a phone line.

I'm paying £54.90p for xl TV, l B/B and xl phone. No Tivo, HD or any other fancy bits and bobs they've introduced since I joined them in 1999.

I've just phoned to cancel my account and oh dear, the young man was very officious and made me feel quite inadequate. I'm sure they're not all as argumentative! So now I wait to see if I get a call from retentions before 8th December, a bit nervous as I've not done anything like this before (I'm blaming all you lovely people on MSE for encouraging me to try to save money where possible :p) but will hold out til 6th to see what happens, then call them to cancel my notice, and possibly have to accept the £5 reduction the young man offered.
    Holding my breath....

Iv'e just had a call from loyalty department out of the blue,I'm tied till march because i got a deal out of them in March this year so was not expecting this.I'm on
    XL TV
    60MB broadband superhub
XL Phone line rental free calls 24 hours a day
    caller id
    Normal hd box
This is costing me £52-90 a month but they did credit my account with £100 in march too so got 2 months for nearly free.
Anyway they just offered all the above same deal but new tivo box terrabyte one and the old box in another room for £49-90p a month plus £50 charge for the tivo box fitting. Also if i p[aid the line rental for the year £120 that would take the rental down to £36 saving a bit more too,
If it wasn't for the fitting charge i would have said get on with it but the charge for fitting annoys me a kid could do it.What do you think guys.
Anyone got a tivo and what do you think of it.

Yeah, never pay for fitting - I've always got it free when thats the deal clincher.

I'll need to ring them soon, I threatened to cancel a while back and got a good overall deal, £16 off VIP list price, but made the mistake of only getting on 1TB tivo box.

The tivo is a good bit of kit, but its a pain when you have a tivo in one room and a V+ in another as the remotes are really backwards (by far the worst thing about the tivo is the remote, mainly its shape and secondly the fact the keys rub off really easily..
