Broadband L up to 10MB upgrading to 20MB March 2013
    Phoneline M

offered me 20.90 down from 28.90.
Decent deal imo, what do you guys think?
  • Hi, we have been with Virgin a long time but only recently checked out our bills and I hope to persuade my parents to renegotiate our contract as I'm sure we are paying well to much. I have seen how to go about it but I was just wondering what people thought the best deal we could possibly get.

We are currently on L BB (I think 20mbs) L phone evening and weekends free and XL TV with Sky Sports and HD channels. The package costs £100 but with the phone calls it recently was £149 which in my opinion is ridiculous!

So does everyone think I should use as a starting point for negotiations?

Push for the VIP collection at the same price - the retention team may say no, but make sure you get them to write down what you asked for and go ahead with disconnection - you get 30 days to 'change your mind' they get 30 days to call you back with an offer.

I'm currently paying £91 a month for the equivalent bundle - although I am 'only' on 50mb instead of the 100mb they quote (no need for it and they will upgrade to 100mb for free eventually...)
  • Thanks visidigi will try over the weekend then post an update when hopefully we get a better package!

I called up a few days ago to enquire about the free 30mb BB upgrade that I was promised earlier this year. I was on the 20mb BB and M Phone package for £20.90 a month.

The operator told me that the free upgrade had been delayed in my area but she gave me an instant upgrade to 30mb BB(as I already had the superhub, no installation was required) and also L Phone for an extra 10p!

That's a sweet deal you got btw.

What do you say to them when you call them up? My contract period has ended and I am thinking of getting a better deal. Don't know how to approach it though..When you call up, do you simply ask to cancel the service or simply request the MAC code, suggesting you are switching providers?

My journey was a bit long winded. I actually did cancel and my intention was to move to Sky but I didn't in the end as Sky messed up. I cancelled contract with Virgin saying Sky were offering a better deal (quoting what they had offered me). Then I got my notice from Virgin and got a call a couple of days later offering further deals. So even if you say I do want to cancel, you still have about 30 days in which to change your mind.

Just be honest and say you are paying too much, others are cheaper and negotiate a better deal. Then say I'll think about the offer, compare and contrast with others, and make the final decision.

Only advice is try not to spend too much time and energy into this as I got sucked in and you can end up just using up alot of time searching for deals and ringing around, etc.

Let me know if you need anything else and let us know how you get on.

The deal you got offered is similar to Zens. See if you can push for earlier upgrade and maybe upgrade your phone too.

Thanks. I'm thinking of taking the Line Rental Saver option to reduce this a bit more. Do you get a discount of £3.90 every month in your price plan for taking the Line Rental Saver option?

Just spoke to Customer Services and took the Line Rental Saver option. Now effectively paying £17.10 for my package - 30mb BB and L phone. Result! :j
