Virgin Media Retention thread

Hi Everyone,
Just thought I would share my experiences of Virgin to help anyone who is looking for a good deal. Also maybe you can confirm whether I can get a better deal or not
I rang Virgin the other day and said I'm moving to Sky. They offered me the following:
30MB BB
Talk Unlimited
Caller Display
For £20.50 per month.
The above includes discounts for E-billing and Line Rental Saver.
What do you guys reckon? Good deal or not? I would prefer it just to be under £20 rather than over. Also would like to get Call Waiting as well so I asked them to put that in for free but they refused. Is there anything else I should ask for?
Great deal for BB and a nice phone package.0 -
Thanks for the feedback Zedcor
I've gone with that package as its the best for my needs. If anyone needs any advice, feel free to ask!0 -
I had a problem 6 months ago with Virgin which cheesed me right off and I decided to cancel there and then. Basically they raised the prices without informing me, I phone up to see what was happening and they told me they were allowed to do it (which I knew) and basically I would have to swallow it. I said I dont because I out of contract and they said I was still in contract on my phone for another 6mts. Again this really cheesed me off as I had a discount a year before and was told that I was only on a twelve month contract but unbeknown to me they put my phone on an 18mth. Anyway, from that moment on I made the decision I would definately cancel this month unless they gave me a better deal.
Current Package
20mb broadband
m phone
xl television with extra box (HD but no tivo)
Current price £58.00
Phoned disconnections last week who agreed to cancel quite quickly. The same afternoon I had a call from retentions but missed the call and finally today we manage to talk to each other. Immediately offered this package.
60mb broadband + New hub
m phone
xl television :- New tivo box with hd box upstairs
New price offered £49.90 with first month free.
I accepted this with no bartering as what they were offering me I thought was fair. They also only put me on a twelve month contract (to be confirmed in writing) which means I will be able to negotiate next October.0 -
I called up today as I'm coming to the end of my deal and got:
20mb BB
M Phone
M TV (Basically freeview) I already have Tivo so keeping that
For 24.40 p/m without taking a new contract out.0 -
My current Virgin package is:
2 V+ boxes & 1 HD box (3 in total)
XL TV
XL Phone
L Broadband
I pay just over £65 a month after receiving an £11 loyalty discount - so without this my bill would be £76
I feel like this is substantially over priced when compared to the new VIP Collection. This would come in at less than my current bill of £65 without even considering my £11 loyalty discount (although I imagine virgin will remove this if i alter my package) and would invlude TIVO, 60Mb broadband and Super Hub.
I'm currently out of contract and ready to renegotiate - any tips or experiences of exisitng customers moving on to the Collection packages or any other benefits I should push for?
Thanks

That's a sweet deal you got btw.
What do you say to them when you call them up? My contract period has ended and I am thinking of getting a better deal. Don't know how to approach it though..When you call up, do you simply ask to cancel the service or simply request the MAC code, suggesting you are switching providers?0 -
When you cancel just wait for Retentions to call you but don't accept their first offer. Have a browse of other forums to see what deals others have got. You can always cancel your cancellation within the 14-day (?) notice period so you've nothing to lose.
What happens if you don't accept their first offer? How do you try to get them to try harder? Finding it difficult to play hardball here..0 -
