Virgin Media Retention thread

Fairly recently I negotiated a good deal with retentions at Virgin
I was able to get about 25% off my total bill, which I was very pleased with!0 -
I just phoned up and renegotiated a very out-of-date package on behalf of my parents, just wondering if I got a good deal as I seemed to have accepted the offer given a bit quicker than some of the stubborn people here...
Looking at their bill they had XL tv, Talk Unlimited, Talk Mobile and Talk International (I think these three comprise the XL phone package? not sure) and "XL broadband" but this was only 20mb. They also have a V+HD box in one room and an additional regular V box in another room. This was costing them £60.55 a month, plus £13.90 line rental plus £29.90 for sky sports and movies, coming to £103.95 a month in total.
With a bit of haggling I was given the same TV and phone packages with a free 1tb tivo box, free installation, keeping the V+HD box for the other room and 100mb broadband with a new superhub thing for a reduced £95.90 a month total. Is this a good deal? I feel like they have NO need for 100mb internet but I had more luck haggling for a higher speed internet than haggling a lower price for the 20mb speed.
What do you think? Could I have got some sort of loyalty discount as well? They've been with Virgin for 10+ years.0 -
So it turns out after a call to Virgin, i pay £38 for talk evening and weekends and 20 meg internet, which is up next month. The chap said i can be put onto a new contract now if i want and just have the broadband for £21.50a month. Held up as i will try the cancelling route and see if i get a better deal, if not i can always just stick with the £21.50....nothing lost..0

Been offered 30 meg Broadband, XL TV, Talk Weekend phone, a Tivo box and a move of my V+ HD box to another room for £55 a month. Still will get charged an install fee. Is it worth it? Any ideas?
Thanks0 -
I dropped the TV from my former package and agreed to £27.90/month for 60 meg broadband and basic phone with caller ID, including free installation of the required new Superhub.0

Thanks
Cancel and say you won't do it unless the install is free.
You might have to get to the callback retentions team, but you should manage to get it free of install charges...0 -
When you cancel just wait for Retentions to call you but don't accept their first offer. Have a browse of other forums (e.g. http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=538090 and http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1716332 ) to see what deals others have got. You can always cancel your cancellation within the 14-day (?) notice period so you've nothing to lose.0

Screw you virgin. I've had nothing but problems with these guys. When I tried to move house they charged me extortionate amounts of money to cancel. Even when I wanted it moving to a new property they claimed that if I wanted to do that I would need to sign a petition with all my neighbours to have new lines put underneath road. Its beyond me!!~:)Be the change you want to see in the world:)~0

VM now following BT and others by offering Line Rental Saver.
Pay 12 months’ line rental upfront for the discounted rate of £120, and you’ll save £46.80 over the year
"Line Rental Saver: £120 for 12 months' Line Rental must be paid in advance by debit/credit card. Available to new and existing customers with a Virgin Media cable phone line. Call charges apply in accordance with your tariff. Not available with other line rental offers, The Biz, The Biz Plus or Home Phone talk plan offers. If you cancel Line Rental Saver within seven working days of your order you will get a full refund of your advance payment to the debit or credit card you paid with. Otherwise the advance payment is non-refundable. After 12 months, you will automatically move to standard line rental charges (currently £13.90 a month)."
Unless you pay up front again of course. But possibly not a good idea if you dont intend to stay another year.

Currently paying £30 for 30mb broadband only, no other packages phone/tv. Pay direct debit, ebiling etc. and out of contract. Tried customer services and told I could get my free upgrade, that was originally due July just gone, but for £30 and new contract! New customers sign a new contract for 12 months at £27.50 per month. Declined this offer of being tied down for 12 months paying more than a new customer. Will try and contact Virgin again, surely they are ripping me off as currently 30mb is being given to new customers at £22.50 (BBand only, no phone)0
