Virgin Media Retention thread

  • I wondered if someone could advise.

I'm on an XL TV package with 10mb Broadband and is costing about £48 a month. Just called them up and they can do one of those wireless hubs for free on 30mb, same XL TV package for £45 a month. The broadband speed won't double though when they do the upgrades.

I called again a day later and was offered the M TV package with 100mb Broadband and basic phone for £42. Want to go for this as I'm only really interested in Broadband but wondered if this was a good deal?

    Thanks

My experiences with Virgin were shocking. Will probably never go back to them as long as I live. They oversubscribed my postcode area to such an extent that internet speed was archaic. They're excuse was... buy faster broadband. Not impressed.

    Got offered the following:

    30mb broadband with new superhub
XL TV (175 channels) keeping my 2 V+ boxes
    Talk evenings and weekends
    Line rental
    12 month contract

for £54 a month. Discount to last for 2 years. Do you think I can do much better? I don't think it's a particularly great deal.

Yes, from my conversations with them that does include line rental. I will positively confirm it once I see it in writing.

Had my contract today and can confirm it does include line rental so a pretty good deal I think, getting the install on Saturday so looking forward to trying out tivo.

Sounds like you got that deal from the cancellation team, I would go ahead and cancel and get a deal from the outbounds department when the call you (if they don't you can always stop your cancellation).

    Hello,

I have 10mb broadband only and pay £23.00 per month. Ive been offered a reduction to 16.00 and a superhub. Is this a good deal? Id much rather have the 30mb for 22.50 but apparently I cant get this in my area because not enough people have cable. Im in west london, so Im a bit sceptical about that.
Any advice would be appreciated. This is my first call to retentions, should I try again.

    Many thanks in advance.

Yeah the 10mb is a joke, £27.50 per month, must be one of the highest prices in the market.

I've been with Virgin since I moved into my home in 2001.

I was paying high amounts and only in the past couple of years started to downgrade my package, the only downside is our daughter, I don't want to lose the likes of Nick Jnr and Tiny Pop (she's went right onto this channel now).

The only thing I'm wondering is though, I'm in a 18 month contract (ends december I think) for the phone-line, but looking at some online at the moment they are very cheap.

Can I have 2 phone lines from different suppliers coming into the same house?

Our TV/BB saving ended at teh weekend so I'm free to do what I want with that.

Do retentions only ring once. I cancelled a couple of weeks ago and had one call about a week later. I refused their deal and was wondering if they normally ring close to the cut of date again?
    Feb £22,608, Weight 18st, 2 x cards, 2 x loans.
  • Do you need to pay extortionate fees to get out of the Virgin Media contract i.e. the rest of the 18m monthly fee?

What do they do if you're moving house and they don't have Virgin in your area?

Do they happily accept you're moving house or do they charge for setup etc?
