Virgin Media Retention thread

If you want the best deal you need to hand in your notice and wait for Retentions to call you. Customer Services don't have access to the best discounts.0

I cancelled mine and retentions phoned the next day. I refused their offer of £25.90 for Broadband and phone. I told them I could get sky inccluding tv for the year for £207.
They have not phoned me back and the service only has 12 days left.
I really don't want to have to go to sky as the broadband with virgin has recently been upgraded and is a lot better.
Any idea if they will still call back or should I just call them and cancel the cancellation?Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -
Early days yet, I'd say. Even if they don't ring back you can always phone Retentions a couple of days before the deadline and see if they'll do better; if not you can make up some excuse for staying and try again in a month or so.0

What speed BB, by the way? I get 60Mb + basic phone for much the same price plus they included caller ID when I requested it.0

Thank you, yes it was the 60mb. I already have the 20 but told him the reason I was leaving was because of the poor service I was getting and he offered the 60mb saying it would help.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. Result! Had a phone call from Virgin they offered me a range of options, and I decided to go with Broadband L at £22.50 but without having to sign a new contract, happy bunny. Speed is not an issue 30mb is perfect for me as a single user.0

Looking at their bill they had XL tv, Talk Unlimited, Talk Mobile and Talk International (I think these three comprise the XL phone package? not sure) and "XL broadband" but this was only 20mb. They also have a V+HD box in one room and an additional regular V box in another room. This was costing them £60.55 a month, plus £13.90 line rental plus £29.90 for sky sports and movies, coming to £103.95 a month in total.
With a bit of haggling I was given the same TV and phone packages with a free 1tb tivo box, free installation, keeping the V+HD box for the other room and 100mb broadband with a new superhub thing for a reduced £95.90 a month total. Is this a good deal? I feel like they have NO need for 100mb internet but I had more luck haggling for a higher speed internet than haggling a lower price for the 20mb speed.
What do you think? Could I have got some sort of loyalty discount as well? They've been with Virgin for 10+ years.
Unfortunately you were taken for a fool, and they were right. They gave you lots of things your parents didn't need for £8 per month less.
This is a great example of how NOT to haggle! :eek:0 -
Originally payed £37 for 20 meg broadband, no tv and talk evening and weekends. After being on hold for a lifetime, they reduced the price to £21 for the same service. I could have had 60 meg and Talk E&W for £30 but 20 meg is enough for me.0

Need some advice, I am currently paying £70 pounds a month for 50MB BB, XL TV and M Phone. I am looking to downsize as we don't watch much TV right now. I would still like to keep the BB though. so far VM have offered the following:
50MB BB + M Phone £37.25 p/m
100MB BB + M+ TV + M Phone - 39.65 (if i sign a new contract, 46.15 if i upgrade?!!?)
60MB BB + M Phone - 33.90
Which of these would be best as i am looking for the least amount of download restrictions. Or should i be looking at moving to Sky broadband, the only problem with this is that i don't have a BT phone line so i would need to pay for this to move over.0 -
I am having problems as well trying to figure out who to go with! i think sky have better customer service but virgin has all catch up so big benefits!!0
