  • evening all and a merry christmas for tomorrow :)

i spoke to virgin media retentions this morning as i wasnt too pleased about paying £49 to pay for installation to add tv to my existing broadband service. thankfully the retention department offered me free install and gave me an install date.

how long will it be before i can see the new services online on my account page? i know that was a really long winded way of asking and i have also just noticed that i havent used any capital letters but thats cos ive been drinking :D

    merry xmas everybody

New costs appear on your next bill (pro rata if you change mid-month for your bill) - they go live on the install date.

  • Hoping someone can give me some advice as I've never tried to change my VM package before.

    I currently have:
TV size L (got a Telewest box from 10 years ago)
Talk Evenings and Weekends (don't actually use this as I have loads of free minutes on mobile)
Broadband size M (don't have a wireless router)

This bundle costs me £30 and I pay £13.90 a month line rental.

I also pay £1.50 a month for paper bill (happy to get rid of that).

I probably spend £3/4 per month on phone calls.

Does anyone think I can get anything better for what I am paying (between £45-£50 a month). What should I be asking for?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I don't think that's worth paying much more than £35pm incl. line rental for. If they won't reduce the cost from the current £44 ask for a free Tivo incl. activation and installation costs to be waived.
  • Just called them, they wouldn't change how much I pay for what I've got. I took of the evening part of my talk package and I'm saving £4 a month. Was quoted £60 for getting a wireless router or could upgrade to 30mb BB and get half price installation. I'm now thinking it would be worthwhile looking elsewhere for services. As I said previously I've never changed package before, can anyone tell me if there is anywhere I can compare providers?

    Thanks again.

If that's all they could come up with then better to give 30 days notice of cancellation.
A different department will then phone you back which usually offers better deals to retain you as a VM customer.

    I have
    TV ................ L
    B/B ................L
    Phone .............XL
    Tivo
for £43.90 per month (including line rental) + online billing.

After call to Retentions recently got Tivo BOX and INSTALLATION FREE and NO monthly fee.

I am quite happy with the service and the cost.
I use "Discountdial" when calling mobiles.
  • Hi guys, been with VM for 2 years, this is my second time calling retentions (last was last year), I'd appreciate some advice on what sort of deals I could expect:

    Currently:
TV XL with 2 V+HD boxes
    Asian package
    30MB broadband
Basic phone - free on weekends only I think

Paying £56.49 including all the retention discounts from last year, less a further £4pm as a goodwill gesture because our TV wasn't working properly, so £52.49.

The price goes up to £65ish in mid-jan, called retentions who said they could only do £60pm, so I've booked a cancellation for end-Jan.

We've had 3 months of problems with the wireless not working properly on the router, only solved last week.

I'm hoping to pay around £50 and maybe an upgrade to Tivo, especially in light of the broadband problems. Is this realistic?? Because it's already fairly cheap considering we have 2 V+HD boxes and the asian channels?

If we have to switch, we're thinking Sky with Sky+HD and an extra standard box, with Plusnet fibre optic broadband, which costs £45+16=61pm, less cashback so £50ish. Is this a good idea??

    Thanks in advance
