  • Hi, well, so far we've had 2 x call backs from "retentions".. the 1st was taken by the Missus and they offered to knock a couple of quid off the phone bill... they were quickly told NO. The second was by me today, they asked yet again why we wanted to quit and yet again i repeated myself 3 times, i even told them that other Virgin customers were getting a much better deal than us and pay a lot less - with that i got some mumbling and that we would be disconnected on the 6th. 100% certain we will get more calls and i will remind them of the previous calls and past Shoddy C.S we have endured!
    Happy Hunting everyone!

  • Hello,

We have been using Virgin for several years and we're on a very basic package of M TV, L Bb, and L Phone.
The price is £32.90 for the package, which I understand is the standard price.
We do not use the TV (have got a shiny new freeview+ box), but phoning Virgin they told me they could not reduce the bill for removing the TV because it is free anyway. Obviously I would like my bill to be cheaper.
I am happy to phone them up and threaten to cancel, but I want to get my facts straight. I know I could get quite a good deal on landline plus broadband from orange (as an existing mobile customer), but what about reconnecting the "BT" landline. Does anyone know what the cheapest way to acheive that would be? I'm concerned that Virgin might throw that into the argument, and I would be floored.

Really all I want is broadband (L is fine) and line rental. Any advice??

    Cheers,
    Ski

No I should have asked how much for both but i presumed it would be out of my price range as i had already asked:

how much for the 100mb and L tv = £66
how much for 50mb and xl tv = £66

I don't think either of these worth the extra £14pm from the deal on the table based on my usage. Id like the 100mb broadband for bragging rights but its silly amount of bandwidth really. I find it quite annoying how virgin reserve hd channels like E4hd and daveHD for xl tv but i can live with it.

I wanted to upgrade my bb when I renewed my package, because I thought the bigger the better. But as you quite rightly point out, if your usage doesn't justify it, there is no point in working this into a deal and paying more for it.

Anyway, back to what you were saying, I wanted to know if you asked Virgin for a price because basically you are not going to know what offer they can make if you don't ask them to make that offer.

If retentions ring you, need to be in a position where you know almost exactly what you want and how much you are prepared to pay for it.

    They made you an offer:

    "xxl (50mb) Broadband
    L TV
    L Phone
    500gb Tivo box

    £52pm"

    You wanted:

"I was hoping to get xl tv and 100mb broadband for under 60: "

If you had told them that sentence they would have then made you an offer, or if you don't really need the 100mb BB, you would possibly be able to get the XL tv if you just asked them for it or made it the deal breaker so to speak...

"I will renew my contract right now, but only if I get that deal but with XL tv"

That is what I would have done anyway! ;)

I am exactly in the same situation. Same package, and don't watch Tv either! I would be interested to know as well. :)

    Skidaddle & *max* -

I think your problem will be that as Virgin say, the tv part of your bundle is free. M tv with Virgin is no better than freeview in my opinion, in fact you probably get more channels on freeview.

If you wanted something more from Virgin, like L or XL tv, there would probably be a bit more flexibility from them. But even if you didn't want to change anything, I think if you went down the giving notice to cancel route, you would get some sort of loyalty discount.

I don't know about the cheapest ways of getting a BT landline, they do seem to have offers on at times which enable you to get it done at discount prices.

I was also looking at Sky not so long ago and I think they have some sort of arrangement to subsidise the cost of getting your BT landline set up, to use through Sky services. Think it was about £20 or something IIRC, but as I said I am not sure about this at all.
  • Yes, that's the thing. I can see that it's easier for them to offer us more for the same price, and they ideally want you to take as many services as possible. I've contacted Orange to ask them what the process would be of getting the BT line reinstated, so we'll see what they say. Once I've got an answer to that, I'll try cancelling and see what happens. Orange looks like it would be £17.50pm for me, once connection sorted out. If they could match that I'd be very happy. I'm actually very happy with the broadband service, so would prefer not to swap if it was cheaper.

Yes, I only want to pay less, really, so a better package at same price would be no use to me. I would also prefer to stay with virgin, happy with the BB I get now.

Could you let us know how you get on with this Skidaddle please?
  • Will try to, as Christmas and life in general allows :)
  • Hi,

    I am wanting the following...

    XL BB with Hub router
    M TV with Tivo 500gb
    No Phone
No Connection Charges . Activiation fees

Is it reasonable to get this for £30 per month? Just want to be informed before I call Virgin. If not, how much approx a month is reasonable charge for this package?

    Thanks

    Are you already with Virgin?

Virgin charge a lot more for bundles if no phone is taken - its usually cheaper to have the phone and not use it.
