Visidigi - a had a similar problem with the "gesture of goodwill", I thought I had been given £60 gesture of goodwill but this was the credit against the installation charge, but the charge doesn't occur until the actual installation.

This didn't make a difference to me because installation was in the same billing period for me, only a week after I called.

You are being unlucky, as you say if you get through to the right person everything is so easy, yet others make you feel like doing unspeakable things to them with their TiVo boxes.

I've figured out what caused my increase, note the word I, not they - they couldn't figure it out, but it seems the 'free' 08 tickle they have been sending for people to have on their account has screwed with the discounts system, so instead adding it for free it increase by monthly bill be £15.

So if anyone has taken on this recent 'tickle' (seriously fire the marketing people for that one) check your bills to see if it has increased this month.

It's not only the tickle.. The free upgrade to try out a higher TV package for 3 months is also not working and you will be charged for it. You have to call and they will credit you with the extra amount for 3 months.

  • Just rang up now, couldn't ring last night unfortunately due to kids footy training.

Spoke to a lovely man and asked if my £66 offer was still there, he checked and said it was, So I asked could I accept it please, he said no problem and ran through it with me, he said that there would be a £49 charge for the Tivo activation/installation (not sure which) so I said I had the original contract that they sent in front of me which waivered that fee, he said he would check and then said yes that's fine.

He told me it would be an 18 month contract, I asked why not 12 and he just said I can't offer free activation on Tivo without an 18 month one. So I agreed.

I got him to run through what I was getting and asked him if there was definitely no extra charges/fees and it was just £66.40 a month and he said Yes and that with the 18 month contract, I will get that set price for 24 months.

So my new installation date is the 4th January.

My lesson learnt is that I was wrong thinking that they needed me as a customer and would do anything to keep me.

I guess i'm pretty happy, It's a tiny bit less than I pay now for a lot more. And a whole lot better than the £79 offer I almost took.

Thanks everyone for your advice. :)

glad to hear they sorted it - the tivo fee will be waived if you mention its currently free for new customers - its this abhorent behaviour retentions have where they will give you anything you say you've seen (obviously it has to exist lol) but they will not offer it without pointing it out.

Anyone calling shouldn't have to pay for a tivo (500gb)or its activation or installation, merely by pointing out its free for new customers at the moment.
  • Moving house soon, been with Virgin for years.

Any idea on how we can get it down?

    We're currently paying £68.50 for -

    L TV
    L BB
    1 additional box
    SkySports Package

Would like similar, could drop down the TV to M. Just want to get it cheaper because with the phone our bill is around £86 each month.

I made them email me my new contract price offer initially and so glad I did as it's backed me up since then!

If you are out of contract, it is worth phoning and getting your notice period started now - it gives them some time to be offering deals and if implemented it is instant so no overpaying unnecessarily.

They did "lifetime" deals for a while and then seemed to change the policy overnight and claimed agents were not authorised to give the deals - there were far too many people mentioning it at the time of getting the deal, and more complaining after their deals were removed, for it to be few rogue agents.

  • Just been offered the following deal from retentions after giving notice last Wednesday. Would appreciate some feedback. I was hoping to get xl tv and 100mb broadband for under 60:

    xxl (50mb) Broadband
    L TV
    L Phone
    500gb Tivo box

£52pm 12 month contract with the first month free.
    Free install no extra fees.

Did you ask them how much it would be for "xl tv and 100mb broadband"?

If not, you should have asked them.

It is difficult to compare and give an opinion if you have been offered a package that isn't the package you actually want.

No I should have asked how much for both but i presumed it would be out of my price range as i had already asked:

how much for the 100mb and L tv = £66
how much for 50mb and xl tv = £66

I don't think either of these worth the extra £14pm from the deal on the table based on my usage. Id like the 100mb broadband for bragging rights but its silly amount of bandwidth really. I find it quite annoying how virgin reserve hd channels like E4hd and daveHD for xl tv but i can live with it.
