Virgin Media Retention thread

The standard price with a phone is £9. Bottomline is they have two different levels of standard charges for exactly the same service,
*New customers, BB & phone (BB=£4.50 discounted for 12 months then BB = £9, phone = £11)
*Old customers, BB & phone (BB=£18, phone = £11)
Just depends on whether they have you in their "keep net" (Nationwide advert reference) already or if you are a new customer.
Everyone can understand a temporary discounted rate for new customers, for a special offer period. But the rate that it reverts to should be the rate that all other customers are getting in the 'keep net'.
Without calling the new package a new name like "The Virgin Orange service" I don't see how they can or should be allowed to get away with it.
I agree with you completely! I think the way they work is appalling.0 -
Sorry if this one is buried away in this thread somewhere but does anyone know what hours the "retentions" team work at VM ?0

Thanks Bex. Just phoned them now and got through straight away. The retentions guy happily put me on the £15.50 deal for BB(M) and weekend calls phone. No fuss, I just stated that I was going to move to BT and O2 for BB and could VM do anything competitive.0

Mine seems to have increased this month grrrrrr.
I am paying
telephone £11
talk unlimited £7.95
Talk mobile £1.50
Phone, TV and BB bundle saving £9.50
TV xl £22
Broadband M £18
am i being ripped off?0 -
OK I have just found last months bill, it seems that on top of the above I was getting a £11.50 saving which was stated on the bill as 3 for £30 saving. Now what has really peeved me is that they gave me the saving last month (dated 14th oct 0 13th nov) but this month they have not only taken off the saving they have also put a adjustment on and have charged me an extra £11.50 for last month...can they do this? I paid my bill last month can they then make me pay the saving that they gave me last month the month after???? I am cross!0

Medium Broadband
XL phone
XL TV
V+ box (already installed)
V box (already installed)
Sky Sports
I'd like to change to the above package, any ideas how much I should expect to pay monthly for this?
During a low period I upgraded to the VIP package a while back but its getting ridiculous with the phone calls and regularly over a £100 even tho I'd agreed to £86 a month.
So I'm approaching them for the above as its all we really use, I've looked at their website continually but it is so confusing and a nonsense its hard to make head or tail of what they might charge.
Any info on what I should aim for it would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks...0 -
Hi All,
I'm with Virgin Media and they are charging me £22 for 10mb broadband.
In the last few weeks I started testing the speed and it never reached 2mb.
Virgin Media has been supplying me with 2mb instead of 10mb for a whole year and they've been charging me £22 for it!
Apparently I need to be sitting to my PC for them to check my speed.
I'll see what deal they are going to offer me now after this cockup.
Did anyone have a similar experience?
Please check your speed, don't take VM's word for it. go on: http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/
Any advice are welcome.0 -

Remember speed-test sites are very unreliable and should not be relied upon.
Imagine if you had 1,000 taps in your house and every one decided to turn them on, you all aren't going to get the full flow. The same happens with speedtest sites, the more people who are running a speedtest the slower the site can send out the data.
The best of the worst is doing 3 or 4 simultaneous downloads from https://www.gamefiles.virginmedia.com and then adding together the reported speed.
Are you connecting via a standalone modem or is it via your TV set-top-box? If via the box then you'll never get 10Mbit and you'll need a modem sending out and a kit to split the co-ax connection.
You can also post in the Virgin Media support newsgroups, where you can post various data to them to help with diagnosis. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
