Virgin Media Retention thread

Hi, I have been with Virgin for more than 12 months now so it's the end of my contract. I currently have:
BB - 50MB (XXL)
Phone (which I dont really use)
I am currently paying £41.90.
I just rang retentions and they only offered what was readily available on the website, £38.90, or £35 without phone, in fact its worse than on the website as a new customer gets a better deal. The woman on the phone said thats the best they could offer. I said I would be contacting BT.
Any advice to get a better deal please?
Cheers.0 -

Originally I had:
XL TV (V+ Box)
XXL BB 50mb
M Phone
For £44 a month inc line rental. I'd managed to get this deal this time last year because I'd been without services for a couple of months as compensation (Basically a free upgrade to 50mb - I was originally on 10mb).
Received my latest bill through on saturday and it had gone up to £64 - Bit too much for my budget, so gave retentions a call last night, just after 7.
Straight away I get offered (without threatening to leave, just asking if my bill can be lowered):
XL TV (500GB Tivo)
(V+ Box moved to a different room)
XL BB (30mb, but free superhub)
M Phone
for £49.90 a month, requires a 12 month contract but price fixed for 2 years (and £49.99 for Tivo). I said I'd like to think about it and could I call back tomorrow (which is now today) - He explained I could but I'd have to be called back because since I'd called in the evening the call was answered by the outbounds team and his colleagues during the day wouldn't be able to match the offer.
Called back today and initially spoke to someone on the inbound team who said the best they could do was £56 a month but the guy from last night had put a note on the account that if requested he'd call me - so the inbound guy sent an email requesting a call.
5 minutes later the person from last night gave me a call back offering me the same deal. After a bit of haggling and looking at alternative packages he agreed to do my package above at £49.90 for £47.90 instead but no matter what I tried he wouldn't budge on the tivo activation charge (Quoted: "We've been told we're not allowed because we're doing free install atm"). However he did say he can give me priority install for this friday the 23rd!
Good deal or should I have threatened to cancel and pushed further?
Thanks!
Pretty good deal all told - what time did you do the initial call? Just curious if the outbound team are still taking over the phones around the same time.speedyrazor wrote: »Hi, I have been with Virgin for more than 12 months now so it's the end of my contract. I currently have:

Over. A. Barrel.
no one else offers a 50mb service, so they don't have to cut the bottom line to you, they know you want to keep the service and the y know you cannot get it anywhere else, for this reason, and rightly so there is very little movement - was it a 18 or 12 month contract this deal would tie you into?
Your threat to speak to BT won't phase them, they won't even have been bothered as its such a unique product segment they can currently consistently offer.0 -

Hi everyone,
Just want to warn anyone getting a retention deal to check there bills...
I was offered free caller display... was not added!
When my phone number was ported over, for some reason it knocked off my retention discount and added an extra £22 to my bill!
Hopefully it should be all sorted now but I'll be checking my next bill very carefully!0 -

I was paying £25 per month for phone and Broadband 'L'. 12 month contract ended. I called up to try and get a better deal.
I suggested I was going to move to talk talk (£16 a month). The best they could offer me was £22.50. or I could drop my phone line and go for £21. I thought this was a pretty poor offer.
Any thoughts on this?0 -
I think there was a previous note that someone managed to get broadband L and a phone line for £16 pm, and someone else XL broadband and XL phone for £25 pm. I would guess both from cancelling and then getting a call from Retentions. To me, both of these are great deals.
**Out of interest, how long after cancelling with Virgin Media do Retentions call to discuss? I appreciate at times they may not call at all!**0 -
Could I get everyones opinon on a offer I have just had from VM? Not retentions, just called to reduce my package-
Currently have the following:
L TV & V+HD
XL BB
L Phone
£55 per month
Have been offered-
XL TV & V+HD
L BB
M Phone
For £42.90 per month plus a £6 discount for the first three months.
Do you think I would get a better offer if I cancelled and waited for retentions to call?
Thanks in advance!:dance:0 -

I called them up as I was moving and said I couldn't justify the £21 for broadband alone, that I'd like to cancel it. The customer services representative said can I get someone to call you back and see if we can come to some agreement. Two minutes later the phone rang.
Offered £11 p/m for L Broadband, result. The guy went on to tell me of another deal:
L Broadband
XL TV with Tivo (free install)
Second HD box
Phone with evening and weekend calls
£36.40 including line rental for 12 months.
Tried to get it without phoneline but it worked out more expensive so needless to say I took the £36.40 deal.
Now I await the installation tomorrow and the contract and bill!
Colin retentions have just called me back and they wouldn't budge on anything less than £17.00. Ok im saving £4.00 but when i told the guy that i knew someone who got it lowered to £11.00 he laughed and said "take no notice of them,we never budge on anything less than £17.00 unless you want 2mb Broadband which we can do for £15.90!" i do believe you by the way and even offered to stay if they done me it for £14 but he was having none of it and said the computers wouldnt let him budge on anything less than £17 even if he wanted to. Well done anyway mate. ive just got through my first year with them so maybe you have been a longer customer? anyway i settled for £17.00 for a year and it will run for 2 years but im not in contract after one year obviously. Saban just hold out until retentions call you which they definately will do, they took 8 days to call me back, which was today, you wont lose that £42.90 offer now as it will be stored on the computer so you have nothing to lose! Hold out0
